Gretsch Army Knife
I'll be honest: after playing some lower-end Gretsch models, I had mixed expectations. I figured the G5622 could deliver some nice clean and crunch sounds (which it does), but probably not pull off metal (which it…does). My original plan was to get this one for clean jangle and build up a guitarsenal to work alongside it. It turns out that this will be entirely unnecessary. I… read more am absolutely blown away by the sound, feel, and, most of all, versatility of this instrument. Aside from just generally being gorgeous, I have legitimately never played anything more comfortable before, even going into the 5-10x price ranges. Maybe some Gretsch models are the way people say—only good for certain things—but not this one. I've found my guitar for life, and thanks to my sales engineer, Mason, never once had to wonder where I stood or how best to proceed. Phenomenal guitar from a phenomenal retailer with phenomenal service!
Impressive
I recently picked up the G5622 in Bristol Fog. Great axe, both visually and sonically. I became a fan of the control setup as soon as I started working with it - paired with the very capable blacktop Broadtrons, you've got impressive tonal flexibility at your fingertips. Helluva lot of good guitar, especially for this price range.
5622
I BOUGHT THIS PLUS A GATOR HARD CASE, WHICH IS OK AND SERVES ITS PURPOSE. I HAD THE GUITAR SET UP BY SW. THEY DID A GOOD JOB AND IT PLAYS AND SOUNDS NICE. IT TOOK 16 DAYS TO ARRIVE HERE ON THE WEST COAST, FROM ORDER DATE, OF COURSE I HAD TO WAIT FOR THE SET UP. ALSO LOTS OF SNOW STORMS TO DEAL WITH. ANYWAY, CHINA DOES A GOOD JOB ON THESE GUITARS, I ALSO HAVE A 5220. THE PICK UPS… read more HAVE A GREAT BITING AND RAUNCHY TONE I DIG. BUT...... THE STRAP LOCKS ARE GARBAGE,THE ONE ON THE BOUT WAS STRIPPED OUT AND I HAD TO DOWEL IT SO I COULD DRILL A NEW HOLE. I PLAY SITTING DOWN AS I'M AN OLD DUDE SO NO BIGGIE.
Don't hesitate
I was looking at the Epiphone 335 and then I stumbled across this one. Bought it and couldn't of been happier. Once I put tens on and got the bridge where I like stellar. The pups are very p90 sounding. Clean with a little jangle. They all handle od and distortion like a champ. Very comfy neck but you are limited to the 15th fret. It's a player and I think it really makes the 335… read more look not that great.
Stellar, Professional Grade Instrument
I had been looking for a semi-hollow in this price range for a few weeks, and the few Epiphones I tried had quality issues. Although they did play well. Gretsch wasn't even on my radar till I stumbled on to this G5622. Wow, perfect build quality, the neck is the perfect size for me, nut was cut extremely well. But the star of the show here are the pickups. These will outshine anything… read more Epi is putting out these days. The tones available here are outstanding. Even with high-gain, the clarity is unbelievable. If I had to nit-pick, these tuners aren't my favorite, a little stiff feeling, but they're doing their job admirably. I've been playing over 30 years now, and have owned dozens of guitars. My number one guitar is my Gibson Les Paul Traditional. But this Gretsch is now getting equal play time. Try one, you'll see. Two big thumbs up!
Gretsch never disappoints
This is my second gretsch guitar. I really love the hard tail on this version. The color is something more than spectacular! It's like seeing foaming Guinness beer being poured into a glass. The sound is beautiful! Very easy to play. There's nothing I don't like about this guitar
Great look and feel
This guitar is well worth the money, lots of character. Good construction and good feel all around... a big jump up from the streamliners in terms of quality. It can do classic-ish Gretsch twangy but it these pickups offer a little more versitility. As someone who has been playing a long while and picky when it comes to sound this fits the bill for mid-range.
Pretty sweet guitar
Overall I really like the guitar; pickups are great and the finish was flawless. I figured I would be swapping pickups at some point but I don't think that will be needed. Out of the box it was set up pretty good and I only needed to lower the action a bit. Never had a Gretsch before so nothing to compare it too but to me it sounds really good. The tone control is really subtle… read more but not sure if that is normal for Gretsch guitars. It's not all roses but the issues were minor. Frets seemed a little rough and needed to be polish a bit and there doesn't appear to be any high frets or buzzing. The tuners are not great and will be upgraded and the strings were terrible. They continued to stretch and never seemed to settle in. Changed the strings and it stays in tune really well now. The finish is more root beer than black gold in my opinion and not sure I would get the same color again if I were to do it all over but the guitars a keeper for sure.
