Fingerpickers Dream
I've been playing for 50 years - and for the last 16 have done 200+ shows a year sitting behind my pedal steel, and playing guitar. I don't normally buy new guitars - I like them broken in. I acquired a used 60's Country Gent many years back - a 'real' one :) - and didn't like it due to the narrow neck, and all the strange and confusing controls, which didn't really work that well.… read more So sold it and sort of wrote off Gretsch long ago. I'm not a rockabilly guy, I like finger style, and a fatter sound. Steve Warnier has always been an inspiration, and he has really nailed this one - the neck is really nice, the controls are simple and work great! All the features add up to make it one of the best instruments I've ever purchased. Warnier can pick like Chet, and rock on a tele with the best of them, so I trusted that he could help create a fine guitar. Everything he specified for this axe is just right for me. Size, features, playability and tone work for me. Can't wait to play out again and hear it in the mix - it should sit just right - has sparkle and guts as needed. And the fit and finish is stunning - yes made in Japan, they do amazing work. This is the right tool for the job if you play fingerstyle and also need more than a one trick pony. Nice surprise (to me) - the strap buttons screw off so you can put on the strap easy, cool! I've had it about a month - and you all know this - if you've played a while, and have different instruments, it takes a while before you do a mind meld with a new instrument as you tweak and adjust and experiment with amps. I bonded with this one in about a week and now it's like I've had it for years. Top notch instrument. This is the 2nd guitar I've ordered from Sweetwater. I've shopped with them for 30 years or so and They do a great job. No lie, they do a thorough inspection and set up - it was in tune when I got - it arrived on a cold winter day, I knew not to open the box for a long while so it could acclimate - or risk finish cracks. Agony it waiting of course, but get this - Sweetwater had warning stickers on the box about that - good to see - some people don't know. Other than needing to change the action a tiny bit to suit - it was perfect when I got it. It won't make me play like Chet or Steve - but it will help me with my goals and needs. Price is right for the quality and Sweetwater has great options to help you manage payments. Plus, there was extra Bio-O-Honey candy in the box - just ship me Bit-O-Honey all the time! I notice in catalogs lots of same-same guitars, and new 'distressed' instruments from famous brands priced way more - for less features, style, class, and versatility. This works for me - Onward.
