Guild D-1212 12-string - Natural Review

Guild D-1212 is a lot of guitar

While I've only had my Guild D-1212 for a couple of days, I couldn't be more pleased. Dan Van Amerongen my sales engineer helped me get a great price. The pics online didn't do the guitar justice. The grain and finish are stunning. The truss rod needed a little tweak then once it was tuned up, the first few chords told me I made a great decision. The tone is full and warm and it… read more certainly fills the room. I've owned a couple of lower-end 12 strings in the past that I didn't connect with. No such problems with the D-1212. The soft case is excellent quality an only adds to the guitar's value. Guild's reputation for building quality 12 strings is certainly warranted.

Guild D-1212

Being mainly an electric guitar player, I wanted to expand my guitarsenol. I played many different 12-string guitars. This Guild really struck the right chord for me. It had a great sound, look and feel. Buying from Sweetwater was a perfect experience. I will ONLY buy musical gear from Sweetwater from this point forward.

Very pleased!

I felt like I was taking a gamble buying a guitar made in China, but I wanted a mahogany 12 string. Well it exceeds my expectations. The build is flawless. Has a strong mahogany sound. I couldn't be more happy. Made just as nice as any guitar I've ever seen.

Guild D1212-The best 12 you’ve never heard of…

How are there any of these left in Sweetwater's inventory!? I had been looking for a 12 string that was shimmery in sound, but warm and juicy to the ear. I've researched and played many brand names that we have all heard of, including some Guild Jumbos. At some point, I stumbled onto the D1212 on Sweetwater's website. I hadn't played a solid mahogany 12 string guitar, but I do understand… read more the dynamics of instrument woods. I wasn't 100% sure what to do ,blind guitar purchases are not my jam, but as I was researching this model, I went over the Sweetwater sales and return policies. They were confident enough in their process, policies and instruments that I threw caution to the wind and went for it. That's when I realized the coolest part about this purchase, in my opinion. They had choices. I could choose wood grain and weight and serial number and even had a salesperson that would help guid me through my purchase. So cool, and not what I'm used to here in MN, with only a specific large retailer here that does NOT seem to want to be as helpful to their customer base. When it got here, it was packaged like it was being air dropped. Thank you again. That was another major concern for me. Upon opening the box, I noticed the gig bag. A very nice gig bag. I may purchase a hard case, but the gig bag is much nicer than I assumed it would be. When I pulled out the Guild. it was perfect, and still in tune. The strings were new, the frets were level and perfect. The setup was mint, and when I strummed an e chord, it melted the walls. The sound was like the sound of sitting around a campfire. Warm and juicy. I know this is not made in the US, but only because it says that it isn't, and isn't $2000. I couldn't be happier with the Guild, or my experience with Sweetwater. I am now, and will always be, a Sweetwater customer. If you're looking for the most under the radar 12 string angel, the Guild D1212 should not be overlooked. Thanks for your time.

Guild's D1212 is a beast!

I have had my D1212 for two weeks now and cannot put it down. First off the guitar is just absolutely beautiful in all it's Mahogany darkness. The grains that show up, the "see through" pickguard(very cool addition), the binding, but I love the iconic Chesterfield logo on the headstock. I worked with my Sweetwater Sales Engineer to review available guitars and chose a very stunning… read more one with awesome looking grain. Plus with the poly sheen, it changes the look depending on the angle, and lighting. As for playability and tones. The guitar came set up just fine, the action was perfect out of the gate. Intonation was spot on, and the neck is really effortless to handle. The guitar handles hard strumming without getting muddied out. During flatpicking on single notes and or doing aprregios, the Guild just sounds awesome, a nicer warm tone with some clear highs but without that jangle some 12's have. Once you've got the top warmed up from some playing time, man does it get real sultry and pleasing to the ear. I even do some finger picking, and the setup on this out of the box makes that real easy too. Although I will say maybe my only knock is I wish the low E and A strings were reversed with their octave strings so downward picking on the low bass notes would ring the lower string first, not the high octave string. Looking around, seems all 12 strings have the octave string on top, so nothing unique to this model, and so I've got to simply carve a new nut to swap them and perhaps I can update the review once done. Other than that, the guitar is a real gem, Guild knocked it out of the park with this one, and Mahogany deserves some love for a great tonewood, in the looks and sound department. I highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a 12 string.
