This is what you are getting with this guitar.A hidden gem of sorts. I always thought the D-18 Standard of the modern era was the gold standard in this price range, but I sold mine after getting one of these. No comparison, this guitar has a more balanced sound,is better constructed, and is just a superior overall product that you can tell was built with attention to detail throughout.… read more Kudos to the new Guild, they are back. And thanks always to Joseph Donner my Sales Engineer and follow up on the sale,it is always much appreciated!!!
D-40 Traditional
This is one of the best guitars I've ever played. The tone is amazing and materials/craftsmanship are top notch. Excited to own this for decades. Highly recommend giving Guild a try and, in my opinion, this guitar is more unique than similarly priced guitars from other manufacturers.

Absolutely the best sounding, warm tone, guitar I have played in 20 years of playing guitar! You will not be disappointed! Guild got it right!
Guild D-40 Trad.
I definitely was not intending to purchase another dreadnought style guitar when I walked into Sweetwater. Something about this D-40 instantly drew me in when I saw it hanging on the wall and after the first strum I knew I had to get it! I've got a HD-28 and a J-45, but this D-40 has a character all of its own. A very full and rich tone, smooth across the spectrum, I am hooked.… read more I absolutely love all of the attention to detail; the craftsmanship is superb. Well done Guild!
Huge sound, flawless workmanshop
What an amazing instrument. This mahogany and spruce dread has such a full, rich sound that it is hard to describe in words. Finger pick, thumb pick, flat pick, strum, whatever. It is capable of doing whatever you want it to do, and there is nothing lost at any volume level. I am so very impressed with the workmanship. It's as close to a perfect guitar as I have ever held or played.… read more "Made to be Played" ... no kidding!
The best guitar I've ever owned
Guild guitars amaze me, and I've been through many different brands and styles of guitars over my 13 years of playing. This D-40 Traditional is the best one I've ever owned, the quality is above and beyond both the Martin D-28 and Gibson J-45 that I tried before choosing this one. Right out of the box it was setup perfectly and the strings that come stocked on these guitars from… read more the factory are the best I've played. I was able to find out what they are and according to Guild's website they are D'Addario Phosphor Bronze EXPs (coated). It goes without saying but the best thing about this instrument is the sound, every note rings out with exceptional detail and clarity, in general the whole guitar sustains very nicely and there is very little fret buzz. The single piece mahogany back is also very pretty to look at, and probably my favorite cosmetic feature is the tortoiseshell binding around the edges of the body. I will likely be keeping this guitar for the remainder of my guitar playing life. It's just astounding.
D-40
Bought this guitar a few weeks ago and I'm blown away by how happy I am with my purchase. It looks great and sounds even better. 10/10 would recommend.
Amazing Guitar
First off I would like to acknowledge the great help from my Sales Rep Alex Campos and the repair department for the Plex job. Alex, prior Navy thanks for your service and all the help for getting this guitar for me! It only took a few hours after speaking with Alex to have my D40 Traditiona Plec'd and shipped. I just pulled this Guild D40 Traditional in antique sunburst from its… read more case after letting it acclimate overnight. First the photos on the Sweetwater website are awesome but I don't know if any photo could do this guitar justice. The finish on this Guild is mirror like, deep and lustrous. Absolutley not a single flaw in quality or craftmanship. A first strum of this guitar and I forgot where I was going, it took my breath away! The low end is bold and strong, mids are articulate, flowing and the highs are angelic. All combine in a powerfull voice with great sustain and this guitar is light as a feather. When I choose some electronics for it I will send it back to Sweetwater for the work to be done.
Guild USA, An Icon Returns!
Having Been a Guild Player for over 50 Yesrs (still gig and record with "64 312 & "68 212). I was concerned that this Wonderful American Brands Best Years we"re behind them. I"m Delighted to inform that this is NOT the case. The New Oxnard built Acoustic Line is simply superb! The choice of woods, the new bracing design and the Excellent workmanship makes these newest Guilds probably… read more the Best Buy in upper grade Guitars on the market today. My personal favorite is the Outstanding D40 Traditional. The elegant simplicity, the superior finish work (sunburst is So Gorgeous) and The jaw dropping tones of this mahogany dreadnought stand up to Guitars 3 and 4 Times the price!! I"m thinking to create this level of quality at this price, That this must be an introductory price point and once players get there hands on these Beauties the price will rise. Guild is Back!! And the D~40 Traditional harkens back to ther Glory days in Hoboken and Early Westerlys. I"m currently gigging and recording with my new Guild and working with Her is pure pleasure. Just for added bliss and at my Sales Rep Ryan"s suggestion I had the Sweetwater Techs perform a Plek Plus set up and install a LR Baggs Anthem all in One Day and what skilled work they do!!! Thank You Guild and Thank You Sweetwater!!
