This things a canon!!
This guitar really does it for me. I've had 2 different people pick it up and literally say "this things a canon". It has a huge sound, lots of growl. Jerry Cantrell plays a similar guild in MTV unplugged. Great guitar, worth the money.
Beautiful Guild - Huge Sound
I recently purchased this F40 Traditional in the natural finish, and it is wonderful! The quality USA craftsmanship shines through, and the proof is in the sound. I use fingerstyle, flat picking, and thumb picking techniques, and this F40 Traditional responds well to all. Very punchy yet sweet and balanced sound thanks to the mahogany sides and back. It doesn't have the overtones… read more of a rosewood guitar - it's rather more focused and direct. Think of a D18, only bigger. And what's wonderful about the jumbo body is the headroom that it maintains no matter how hard you dig in with a pick. It does not choke out - it only sounds bigger. Having played mostly dreadnoughts, I've found that a jumbo guitar fits me best. This is a large guitar, but the ergonomics actually make it more comfortable to hold than a dreadnought. And the power - oh man. This is a loud guitar, and you can feel the rumble in your chest when you dig in. This guitar has an understated elegance to it. No fancy inlays or unnecessary bling - but it's simply beautiful. And the Guild headstock logo catches my eye every time I open the case, as does the tight grained sitka spruce top and and the large curves of the lower bout. Simply beautiful. Lots of great brands out there, and I've owned great examples from many of them. However, do not let Guild off of your radar, because you'll be missing out on seriously great guitars that are priced better than comparable offerings from other brands. I sold a downright amazing Martin D18E to purchase this Guild F40 Traditional, and I have zero regrets. Finally, because I play live occasionally, electronics are a requirement. So, I paired this guitar with an LR Baggs M80 soundhole pickup, and it's a match made in heaven. Big sound whether I'm plugged in or not.
Powerful, earthy instrument
I'm a new Guild owner, been wanting one for quite a while now (especially after discovering one of my greatest influences, Robbie Basho, played one extensively). Coming from a Martin D18, this guitar is a massive tonal and responsive difference. While Martins typically are more bass- and treble-oriented, the F-40 Traditional has substantially more mid-range, which helps create a… read more very punchy and full tone. The craftsmanship of the instrument itself is impeccable. The inlays are perfect, the headstock looks beautiful, and as this is a brand-new guitar it also has a strong woody aroma to it that is intoxicating. The intonation from the factory is great and although it's a little bit low at the moment I don't think I will be adjusting it for a while. I'm looking forward to many years with this beautiful guitar, and I'll be strongly considering Guild for future guitar purchases.
Huge sound
On my first visit to Sweetwater I wanted to try out a 'big body' acoustic, searching for the deep/full sound. I picked up the Guild F-40 and was sold! Great sound, easy to play.
Guild F-40 Traditional
I am so happy to have this guitar. It is so light in weight that it is hard to believe an acoustic guitar can be so light. I also have the Guild F-40 with Baggs pickup, but, not fancied up, and they are different and yet both wonderful.
