Amazing Tone!
I have one of these in the bridge of my Ibanez Gio. It has such a nice rich sound and I am looking forward to putting another one in the bridge of my Ibanez AZES40.
Very tight and responsive
...it was given to me by someone who changed out this pickup in his guitar with a Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge instead because he prefers that pickup in the bridge of his guitars. I recently bought a Yamaha Pacifica in Tobacco Sunburst with a Rosewood fretboard and it is SSH configuration. In case you"re not familiar with the Yamaha Pacifica"s they are extraordinarily underrated… read more guitars and the quality is outstanding especially for the price because somehow they are sub $200 guitars. The only upgrades you need to do on them is change the tuners which aren"t terrible but could be better, replace the nut which is made of cheap plastic and swap out the pickups down the road. I was quite impressed by the pickups that came with the Pacifica and while I compared it in the store through the same amp with a Mexican Telecaster and a Mexican Strat the Pacifica sounded better, no lie. I actually quite like the spanky, jangly tones of the single coil pups in the Pacifica so I don"t feel the need to mess with them but since I still had this EMG HZ bridge pickup I decided to finally put it to use by removing the bridge humbucker in the Pacifica and put it in its place because I do a lot of Heavy Metal riffing and for a clear definition with lots of distortion I knew a high quality bridge pickup would be necessary over a low grade stock bridge pickup. Well it turned out to be a great idea because as soon as I plugged my guitar in and switched to the EMG HZ in the bridge and laid on the thick distortion I was blown away by the sound I got! Not only does the distortion sound thick and heavy, it sounds 3X as massive and all the while the top end is huge and each note rings clearly yet sounds thick and beefy at the same time without sacrificing any of the dynamics in your picking. Just by installing this one pickup in the bridge of this Yamaha Pacifica I"ve instantly made it one of the most versatile guitars I"ve ever heard or played. I recommend anyone who loves Metal to try it out because I am not one to hand out glowing reviews on the reg, I"m mostly a skeptical person who rarely comes across a pickup or a pedal or a guitar that impresses me with noticeably improved tone because most items I"ve encountered just didn"t really leap out at me. There was no doubt about the quality of this pickup from the start it was instantly apparent how great it sounded and my ears could spot right away that this was finally a "good" Metal tone I"ve been searching for for quite a while.
