Tube Tone on a Budget

Zachary Shery

I stopped searching for "authentic" tube tone in a solid state amp a long time ago, and began discerning what type of sound I preferred. The Orange Crush/Crush Pro series satisfied my saturated distortion fix, and the Fender Mustang LT did an excellent job of emulating clean to gritty tones. I purchased the Behringer HA-40R to jam and play small gigs with (as well as for the real read more spring reverb!). The tone and responsiveness exceeded my expectations. For the money, I have not heard a more "tube-like" sound. The drive channel pushed past noon leaves something to be desired, but it is quite natural sounding prior to that. Take a chance on this amp. You won't be disappointed.

Absolutely Killer

At this price, I'd have been happy if the amp was just ok but I was truly blown away with the quality and the value for money. I couldn't tell you how "close" to a tube amp it sounds, but I can tell you that it sounds really, good. I was especially impressed by the clean channel. It has a very articulate, bass-forward response which I really enjoyed. And while I wasn't anticipating read more all that much from the overdrive channel but was very pleasantly surprised. It ranges from mild crunch to a pretty aggressive distorted sound with a responsive gain control. Additionally, this amp takes pedals well. An effects loop would have been nice but can hardly be expected at this price point, given the attention to detail in other areas. The built-in spring reverb is quite nice and can be controlled with a latching footswitch. The only thing to keep in mind is that the drive channel doesn't sound good through headphones. The clean channel sounds fine though, so the headphone jack isn't a total waste. It gets pretty loud quickly so remember that if you live in an apartment or like to play late at night. Overall, I'm really happy with my purchase and would definitely reccomend that anyone looking for a high-quality amp at an affordable price.

Exceeded my expectations

As a bassist interested in splitting my signal out to two amps (bass and guitar), I bought this little Behringer more as an experiment. There are seemingly identical low-price amps on the market from other manufacturers (Glarry being one of them), so I didn't really expect much in quality or performance, especially from Behringer, a company known to produce knock-offs. However, read more I was dead wrong. This little amp kicks butt! It's well-made, solid, and produces great sound…. LOUD, without any cone clipping. It has a nice overdrive setting to really dial in the level of distortion you prefer, and the spring reverb adds the perfect final touch. You'd be hard pressed to find a better 40w amp at this price point. Extremely satisfied with it!

Great Pedal Platform with Spring Reverb!

I love this amp so much. Wanted to get a new amp but couldn't pay a huge amount. I found this and figured I would give it a shot. The sound is rich and full with a 3-band equalizer. Haven't messed around much with the drive settings, but they sound fine. The coolest part is that there is a real, drippy spring reverb in there. Having so much fun with this amp!
