Brings Out the Best

I have owned this amp for a long time. Despite purchasing other, more extravagant production and boutique amps, and selling off many others, I hold onto this one because it feels like whatever guitar I plug into it, it sounds great. Whether it's a single coil or a humbucker, alder, ash, basswood, or walnut body, whatever, I plug it in and get a good balanced sound with minimal fuss. read more Another thing I love about it is its versatility. I can get just about any tone I want out of it, again with minimal fuss. And it records great, mic'ed or direct, or both. I really think that for a production amp it brings out the best in my various guitars.

This amp has been my go to amp for a year and it does everything from crisp clear cleans to big bold metal I bought the 5way footswitch and it's been essential! Highly recommend that and also I got a MXR EQ pedal that I put into the front of the amp and it really clears up the muddy base tone of the gains. Bottom line I've done ALOT of searching and this is still the best tube amp read more for the money I mean you can really do a lot with this thing just look at the back panel and another recommendation is to try the different reverb types (dark/light) representing Marshall and Fender modeling and the infinite shape feature is great I keep mine all the way to the left (American) for my style. Currently mine is in the shop at Sweetwater free (2 year warranty)but they have been great so far at keeping me updated thanks Sweetwater!

This is a really great amp for the money. With 2 voices on each channel, this is all you need. The Celestion Seventy Eighty speaker that it comes with is fine and perfectly useable, but you will get more out if this amp with a speaker upgrade. .I live mainly on the clean channel and the two voices there cover all the sounds I need for Country music, a classic old school fender read more type sound for the old school stuff and an edge of break up chimey Vox boutique tone for the more modern sounds that are popular now. The Vintage 30 speaker improved these clean tones significantly, the voices sound much more like the classic amp tones after I did the swap. The overdrive channels are nice too but I bought the amp to play Country music, which it excels at.I wouldn't say the Overdrive voice 1 sounds like a Marshall, it's certainly in that ballpark and same for voice 2 it's a modern sound and very useable. If you want a Marshall sound, only a Marshall will give you that. However, the Overdrive channel is still very useable, plenty of gain and does sound good. For the money, I think this amp is fantastic, it sounds great and feel I will be using this as my main amp.The only thing I would tell Blackstar is to ditch the seventy eighty speaker and put something better in.

Blackstar Club 40 great amp!!!

Having Marshall's, Fenders, Voxxes, Orange, Peavey, I just obtained the Club 40. WOW. Killer clean tones, killer dirty channel. Versatile, attractive, surely gig worthy. Highly recommend!
