Just What I Was Looking For!

This little amp is great. I have a larger Fender amp that is too loud to use as a practice amp. With this Blackstar amp I can get the volume down to the perfect level to play in a bedroom in another part of the house and not bother anyone else. It breaks up nicely to give me great distortion. I don't need any pedals. I highly recommend it.

Great practice amp

Sounds great running amp into 12" speaker cab, using clean channel, vol 10, gain 3 to 5 , pedal board works well and clean vol boost works, all pedals after overdrive pedals work well, ep pedal after od pedals work well. Amp sounds great this way and could be used for small in home gatherings or mic'd into PA. Using amp speaker using clean is ok but speaker or tubes break up too read more soon. Overdrive channel sounds great but putting pedals in front , delay or modulation don't work well in front of amp. A clean vol boost pedal adds more gain/distortion but if boost petal boosts highs, that can help solo's stand out somewhat. I will use amp as a head with extension cabinet and pedalboard most of the time. When I need to practice at really low volume, I'll use the combo and Overdrive channel with a clean top boost pedal only, and that will work fine for learning new songs. So combo is versatile and can be used with ext cab, or combo 7" speaker. I think it may be the 7" stock speaker that limits the clean channel volume before breaking up, but add an ext cab and cleans come to life. I'm happy with amp and will keep it and use it regularly.

GREAT AMP!

This little blackstar is an outstanding amp! It has been exactly what I needed for practicing and small areas! I was hesitant about buying a tiny tube amp because I was worried the sound wouldn't be there. BOY WAS I WRONG. This amp gives you all of the tube tone and feeling that you expect on big amps. I've had a Carvin BelAir and a Fender Twin, and this little guy gives you the read more same feel without blowing doors off the house. Don't get me wrong, you can crank this amp up and get MORE than enough sound to annoy your entire house! It sounds great overdriven and would be perfect for jam sessions with your friends. Controls are simple and easy to use, and the reverb sounds great. I wanted to wait a month or so to review this to really put it through its paces. I must say, I feel like this amp had a slight break in period before it really warmed up and found it's voice. The more I play it, the better it seems to get! I can't recommend enough! This is a great amp for someone who played tubes and wants something more manageable both with volume AND weight. This would also be a great first amp for any solid state players wanting to make the dive into tube land! Again, Blake Rice and all of the Sweetwater staff were amazing. Shipping was fast and communication stellar!

Awesome for what it is

for me this is the perfect practice amp. Tube warmth, small sizedoes everything it is designed for very well. If I need effects or full EQ i have plenty of pedals, but the amp is tasty all by it's self. And i wouldn't buy from anywhere besides sweetwater.com, Dave B. is the man.
