What you want from a compressor

The main problem with most compressors - especially in a pedal format - is that there is very little control to how they affect your sound. Tweaking knobs either results in too little or too much compression. The Hypergravity pedal with the TonePrint software gives you extensive control over parameters. Having multiband compression goes a long way to reducing the "sledgehammer" read more effect of dialing in compression so as to leave certain frequencies less compressed and providing a more natural sound. This helps alleviate the pumping you hear from most compressors (but you can still choose that kind of compression if you like). And with less overall compression across all frequency bands comes less noise. You can also, for example individually change the attack time for low, mid and high frequency bands, adjust the crossover etc. Plus you still have a blend control to add some of your unprocessed sound back in. Add to that templates, artist presets and your own customized presets and it's an unmatched feature set for any compressor - rivaling many rackmount or software compressors. Highly recommended and very economically priced.

Always On With My Bass

I use this compressor with my bass rig. I play thru a Fender Rumble 500 combo and this pedal and a tuner is all I run thru. I play a Fender 51 reissue P-Bass, Fender Player Precision bass, a Fender 62 Flea Jazz bass, a partscaster Jazz bass, and a Rickenbacker 4003. I wouldn't think of playing any of my basses without this pedal. It really opens up the sound on all my basses. read more I can play hard, (Finger style), and know that the sound will be full and even with no peaks or overly loud notes. It does what a compressor is supposed to do. You can dial in some great dynamics with the 4 controls. I've never used it with any of my guitars so I can't comment on that. But for bass playing, it's always part of my rig.

Extraordinary Sound In A Small Package

I did a lot of reading up on compressors and the sound they generate and what they can do. And after doing my homework - which included the article right here on Sweetwater from Don Carr - I settled on this beauty for my new board. I've been playing for about 18 months, but am a total novice when it comes to pedals and overall sound engineering. But this thing makes it so easy read more to dial in that perfectly smooth country sound I'm going for. And it's so easy to go from that to an easy-flowing melodious solo, and then into a semi-muddy crunch. All with the turn of a couple of dials this way or that. I will state right here that Don Carr's article helped me more than anything with this...but I'm so looking forward to just playing around and seeing what other sounds I can get out of this just by listening. Thank you Sweetwater for stocking and selling this gem; I'd absolutely recommend this to any aspiring guitarist!

Rivals some $$$ rack mount studio gear

Quality design, excellent tonal range, whisper quiet, dynamic, singing, sparkling, and responsive. If you"ve ever hear a high-end "aural exciter" in the studio applied to vocals, this is the equivalent for guitar. The Tone Print editor feature is superb for deep editing, but it"s ready to go out of the box. Stunning job from a great pedal company.

Transparent & easy to use!

The TC Electronic Toneprint devices are well designed and sturdy. The Hypergravity Compressor is no exception. I use it with my amplified acoustic guitar, with the attack set to minimum (really fast) and the sustain (release) set to about 9 o'clock. The pedal takes that "quacky" spike out of the sound without affecting the overall tone or balance of the acoustic. You also can read more have some fun downloading various artists' toneprint settings! Highly recommended!
