Metal monster on the Go

I've had the Engl Ironball Combo for about 3 months now and I have to say I am surprised at how versatile it is. The clean channel offers a wide range from an articulate crystalline clean to a great crunch sound with the gain boost engaged. The lead channel is something else, providing that tight harmonically rich dense distortion that Engl is famous for. The power soak feature read more works very well, for me, playing at full 20W is not always possible, so the 5W setting comes in handy. The compact size and weight make it highly portable, and the build quality appears solid, something you'd expect from a German made amp. The built in digital reverb is controlled by a knob on the back of the amp, which is a bit inconvenient, and that is my only real complaint. The effects loop works great for time based effects like delay and is also a good place for a noise gate if you'd prefer to use one, which I sometimes do when using at full power. I am loving this amp, it was exactly what I was looking for in a small package for practice and recording, and you can port it to external cab if you need more. While there is some sonic overlap, Engls have a different thing going on than Marshalls, and if you like that sound and are looking for it in a portable compact size, I would definitely recommend going for it !

A nice amp

well its not a mesa . its very pretty ! the power soak is a bit silly . as expected the overall sound and tone quality degrades and suffers a good bit any less than full power . tone can be shaped up pretty nice at full power .its built like a tank ! Lead channel is the good channel and really starts to sing and shimmer so sweet at higher volumes. clean channel is kind of not read more good at all and just kind of there . dont recommend deep drop tunings . or with anything more than 6 strings.. bottom end is not tight enough and hard to shape in my opinion . other than that it looks real nice in the room and is better than my first amp !
