You have to tune it every time you play it but the tone is awesome. Plugged in it sounds like a big fat upright. The strings are a little sticky but you get use to it. It's fun to play and great to take to gigs for that "tone." One thing worth noting, you need to adjust the strap so that your plucking hand doesn't have that sharp ninety angle...kinda hurts after awhile....
