If you need BASS.
This is my current gig bass, and it's one of my favorites. The neck is big, but feels great (and I have smaller hands.) The finish is what you'd expect from Lakland; simple and clean. The sound is huge, due probably to the massive body. It's the best "divebomber" bass I've had; slide down the neck on the E string and you will speak with authority. Massive bass. The overall tone… read more is great, mine has no dead spots and it's easy to dial in a great tone. The cons: First, it's heavy. If you're stuck playing three sets in a cramped area, I'd take a lighter bass for the third set to avoid backache (I use a Lakland 44-64 for this.) Second, the slab body style is uncomfortable if you like to play high on the body. It's better for mid to low slingers. Despite those issues, I really like the 44-51. I can't think of an instrument at this price point that I've liked as much.
