I wanted Weird and I got Very Weird
I love outlandish effects. They cover up my lack of talent and sloppy fingering (joking mostly). In all seriousness though, the Lightpedal is a really cool piece of kit. A gimmick? Not really. It has a lot of potential for wide, sculpted sounds that take your listener to a new headspace, and inspire a new take on playing. I use this entirely on synths and find it to be very well… read more suited. Often times I will forget I am playing the instrument as I am so focused on "playing" the lightpedal. The response is entirely dependent on your attack, level, tone complexity, and what pedals come before it. Learning what makes the lightpedal happy will net some very interesting and lush results. Making it unhappy gives neat distortions and overdrives that are quite unconventional but totally work if used right. If you only need a tiny bit of spring reverb, what some might call "tasteful," you can do that too. As an aside: Read the manual as there are ways to combine the settings that give many more avenues of exploration. I don't often do this as I find Sweep, Optic and Feedback to be A+ on their own, but worth trying. The light pedal won't replace your digital reverb, but it might be hard to replace the Light Pedal once you own one. If you aren't afraid to make new sounds, this is the pedal for you.
Unique & Interesting Sounds
Amazing. This is a marvelous reverb pedal. Be sure to read the instructions! This is an easy to use pedal, and getting good sounds takes no time all, but the pedal has some additional features built in that are not obvious (except as detailed in the instructions). For example, you can combine some of the 6 different modes/effects. My favorite is combining sweep (with a slow rate)… read more with feedback (and then adjust that with an expression pedal). I recommend watching demo videos of this pedal to check if its unique alchemy will fit in the niche you're looking to fill.
Fabulous spring reverb and so much more
If you enjoy true analog spring reverb, this is for you. The spring reverb sounds great and is very quiet. It also responds to bumps. It has all kinds of new sounds embedded in it by using the optical sensors and the different modes, including tremolo and a really atmospheric reflect. I have been able to find every reverb-related sound I need in here and many very usable sounds… read more I never imagined. This is an always on pedal on my board.
