The Best Tube Reverb
This unit is remarkable and, for many reasons, I think it's the best overall stand-alone tube reverb currently being sold. Like the Benson Tall Bird, this unit uses a 9" tank rather than a Fender style 16" tank, but the 9" tank is actually better for guitar (less boingy). It's dead quiet, and the mix and dwell knobs go way beyond standard reverb sounds into a complete wash effect.… read more It also has a useful tone knob, which is missing from many competing units, and it looks much better in person due to the 3 circle cutouts that let the light through. The ground switch helps as well, whereas the Benson slightly hums in my room setup. Built like a tank, and definitely a 5 star product.
I have the 1960s reverb sound in my bones...
If you love Jorma Kaukonen's final guitar solo to Jefferson Airplane's "Somebody To Love", then you are a reverb lover like myself. This Dr. Z reverb unit is the best thing out there to duplicate that sound - I promise!
Glorious Reverb!
Absolutely amazing sound from this unit, it far exceeded my expectations. I had looked into vintage reverb heads, but they cost twice what this cost, and they are decades old and may need repair. The reissue units have been discontinued, and they now cost close to what the Z-verb costs, but with all of the complaints about the reissue needing different tubes and capacitors to sound… read more right, and it had a delicate circuit board, I decided not to go that way. There are kits to build your own, but the cost of the kit plus assembly time gets close to this z-verb. I decided to get the Z-verb, and boy am I happy I did. It is so much better than the one knob reverb on an amp. The adjustments on this unit gives it great versatility. The reverb is beautiful. For you surf guitarists out there, yes this unit has the much coveted "surf drip". I played Pipeline with it last night and it sounded like the record! It is also fantastic for non-surf stuff, you can dial it in and get the exact sound you want. It's far superior to onboard amp reverb, there is no comparison.. I am delighted with the Z-Verb.
