Little Martin
I love my guitar! It is all I hoped for! Very satisfied with the product and the service. Well absolutely recommend Sweetwater to everyone looking for a great experience in purchasing guitars! Thank you!
Love it!
For the size, wow! Amazed in the sound and volume. I like the durability and not having to maintain humidity. Easy and playable for my 6 and 7 year old.
Packing department
I picked the Little Martin because I've had two strokes and my left hand doesn't work well. I'm using the Martin for therapy I played guitar years ago but because of the strokes I'm having to start over and re- learn from the beginning all while learning to use my left hand again. I received my little Martin in perfect condition, the packing was amazing the expanding foam made… read more the box into a solid unit that even the worst handling couldn't break. Thanks packing department my little Martin made it safe and I'm having fun with it. Sweetwater Guitar gallery you did a perfect setup. Happy with my first Martin Thanks
Big guitar sound
My Martin LXK2 is just amazing! Easy playing for a adult, and sounds a lot like my Alvarez AD30, just not as loud. Incredible tone for a small guitar. The finish looks like mill cut koa, and you need to look very closely to see that it's just a pattern. I bought this for traveling because the Martin X series is made from HPL and are highly resistant to changes in atmosphere, temperature,… read more and humidity, and the LXK2 is definitely"carry on" if I'm flying. The people at Sweetwater did an amazing job getting me the color I wanted. Their customer service is like no other music shop I've ever dealt with. I got my guitar in like two days, and it came out of the box ready to play, and perfectly tuned. I've been playing my lxk2 for an hour and it's still in tune. I highly recommend this guitar for anyone; not just for children.
Fun guitar
I've been wanting a good small travel guitar, and this is great. It's sturdy (High Pressure Laminate) and can withstand the stress of travel. Previously I've tried using a solid-top mini travel guitar, only to have it crack on a trip. I think HPL will withstand a lot more abuse (though read it can shatter if hit hard enough). This feels much stronger than plywood guitars. This… read more is the first HPL guitar I bought, and am surprised at the tone quality. The tone is good: crisp, but it also has a solid bass. It is not tinny or brash, but also has a good clean high end. The sound is surprising loud. It is of course slightly quieter than a full sized guitar, but also louder than I expected. The neck feels slightly heavy. However, it is balanced at the strap. Overall though, the neck looks indestructible. IMO HPL is definitely an interesting building material for instruments, though I think it is a slight marketing mistake to make it look like faux-wood. This only invites comparison to wood, which it is not. Rather, they should experiment with other decorative or colorful prints and embrace the fact it isn't wood. The branding is a little confusing, as Koa HPL doesn't actually contain any Koa wood (from what I can tell). It only means it has a Koa-looking print. I think HPL is the same for all Martin guitars. Also a minor nit: it comes with thick, higher-tension strings (13 gauge). These strings do sound good, but are harder to play than a full-sized guitar. In comparison, the Taylor mini GS scale length is .5 inch shorter which lowers the tension. I think medium-light gauge (12) may work better? For the time being, I just dropped the tuning pitch.
