Overdrive Pedal?

Not what I was expecting from a compressor pedal but glad I gave it a chance. When buying overdrive pedals; edge of breakup, and transparent were buzz words that intrigued me. I play mostly clean but have been chasing that elusive "dirty clean" tone. I bought a few overdrive pedals (expensive, gold ones, green ones, with eq, famous ones etc.) but no matter how I tweaked them they read more just didn't sound right. I always found the drive knob to be set close to 0 and the tone being muddy or having too much mid range. I prefered my direct tone every time. This pedal with the sensitivity dimed and the attack switch engaged gave me everything I was looking for. Transparent and on the edge of breakup. Extremely dynamic to your pick attack. When really digging in it breaks up naturally, with clarity and sustain. Yes, it does breakup much like a TS with the gain set really low but without the mid hump. When picking lightly it is dead clean. There is no noise at all, and all the boost from the output knob you would ever need. The compression with the attack switch engaged isn't anything like the squishy tone you would expect from a compressor pedal. It is very close to a cranked high wattage clean tube amp type of compression. It does the squishy thing too with the attack button disengaged if that's what you're after. For the few times I like to rock, I think a distortion pedal would be better suited than an overdrive.

Surprisingly flexibility

I have had this pedal for over a year now and have been blown away by how much quieter it is than other compressors. Absolutely does the trick with a small footprint all over the pedal board (in the front, at the end or somewhere in between). Most recently, I have been using it after my drive as a lead boost and it has been amazing at that job. I could not be happier with this purchase.

Great compressor pedal

This is my second compressor pedal. It works like a charm. You may have to play with it a bit to find your preferred levels but it works very well, especially considering its size. You can get more features on full sized (like the Deluxe version of this) pedals but this one works so well, I find myself using it more than my MXR Custom Comp pedal. For the price, this is really hard read more to beat. Another great pedal from MXR!

Fantastic Tool

I have been looking for a way to improve my clean and slightly dirty tones for a while now. After trying various boosters, I decided to give compressors a second look. The Dyna Comp Mini caught my eye, and after the great experience I had with the Phase 95 (superb little phaser) I decided to give it a chance. I have owned several compressors in the past but none ever made it to read more my pedalboard. The Dyna Comp Mini has exceeded my expectations. This pedal is quiet, even on stage with overdrive, and is more transparent than a block logo Dyna Comp (but still has plenty of squash if that's your thing). I didn't think I would use the "Attack" button, but it has become my preferred setting for making my clean and overdriven tones bolder and punchier. I set the Sustain knob low, and crank the Output for a nice boost with mild compression (with the Attack button engaged). This pedal has been useful with all of my guitars, with single coils and humbuckers. The pedal looks and feels like a more expensive unit. The only question will be long-term durability, which will only be answered in time. I am very happy, and I highly recommend checking this new pedal out for quality compression at a great price point. I think MXR has really stepped up their game with the new mini pedals.
