Excellent example of a great compressor.

"Mxr makes great pedals". This Studio compressor is a great example of that statement. I've been using the Mxr Bass compressor for a while and it looks like this Studio compressor is the same exact compressor but with a different name and color. Truth be told, either one of these compressors can be used by anyone. Whether it is used for bass, guitar, keyboard, voice or anything read more else. They both have the same exact circuitry and they both perform fantastic. They use what they call CHT (contant headroom technology) circuitry that is extremely transparent and quiet. You don't even know its their, other than noticing your playing sounding smoother and more even, with the peaks and lows in a more uniform dynamic. It is exceedingly tweekable with Attack, Release, Ratio, Input and Output. It does have LEDs to visually see whats going on, which is helpful. I classify this compressor from middle of the road to high end, as far as pedal compressors go. It is housed in a small aluminum case that is strong and capable of taking many years of foot stomping abuse. From my own experiences, the Mxr customer service is very good and they stand behind all of their products. I would recommend anyone in need of a compressor to give this one a try. You won't be disapointed. So! Gettchaself one!

The Only Compressor Worth Getting

First and foremost, I wanna give 5 stars and a huge Aloha and Mahalo to my main man AJ Becerra for always taking care of us. For almost 8 years AJ has been an amazing part of my Ohana and making the transactions easy and quick! AJ is always here for us. This MXR Studio Compressor is killer! I had it for a few days and put it through the paces everyday since. It has all the bells read more and whistles you need for any occasion that compression is needed. I've tried the MXR Bass Comp a few years ago at a local shop and loved it but, I ended up holding off on purchasing it. I'm glad I waited. I'm more mature of a player and know what I want out of this pedal. It takes you to "Nashville" and anywhere else you wanna go. I not only use it for sustained and compressed tone but, I utilize the Gain Reduction LED meter to monitor my pick dynamics. At the setting I use, the harder I play, the more LED's light up, the softer I play/pick, the less LED's I see. Who doesn't love LED's? I use with or without distortion and it's great. Contact AJ Becerra to purchase one and improve your tone! Thank you AJ Becerra and Sweetwater!

Normal compression controls / no blend!

I never could wrap my head around why people are putting "blend" knobs on compressors. Talked to a guy at my local shop, he tried to explain it to me and I still don't get it... If I want to choose how much compression I want to hear, I'll use the ration and threshold controls. Why at any point in the compression stage do I want a dry signal leaking into my sound? Anyways, there read more are SO many compressors with this dreaded "blend" control, that the most exciting thing about this MXR is that it's just a normal compressor with the standard knobs you'll find in most basic studio compressors. It's also very solidly built and clean/quiet sounding. I don't know much about other compressors, but I'd assume this one would be considered fairly transparent (unless you obviously squash the heck out of your signal). I use it in my pedalboard for just a little bit of taming my louder notes. I also use it in my home recording studio before my UA Apollo Duo for bass/guitar.

So far so good...take two

this is my follow up as I promised...I got to run the compressor through its paces Wed. 11/28/2018...It mentions in the directions to get the "Nashville Squash"sound...which is for clean sounds I assume...set the Ratio nob to 20...it worked fine....my notes continued smoothly. Then I added some grit to my signal and played with ratios...till I got what I wanted on 4. All in all read more I was very pleased with the affect it had on my overall sound all night. I was sure I would kick the unit off during the practice with the band...but to my surprise it stayed on all evening...Nice product.!!

So far so good...

I'm replacing a compressor that was to enhance the Rickenbacker sound....it did that ,but not without some problems...ugh! I am not going to talk about the difficulties I had but will focus on this new MXR.. It came highly recommended by my sales rep...who also had issues with the old compressor I owned. This MXR are is first of all very QUIET.....I have not taken it to band practice read more at this date (10/23/2018)...I have run it through its paces at home...it does very well in stretching out my clean signal...when I require pleasant sustain. The release ratio is unique...I will hold my comments till I play with our band. Please stay tuned...
