Replaced the strings on D-10E
I tried these as a replacement for the strings on my D-10E. I don't know which model strings Martin installs at the factory for the D-10E. I loved the sound of the factory installed strings. I wanted a lighter gage so I tried these. These sound very good but I was disappointed because the factory installed strings were louder and more chimey. These are warm sounding. nothing wrong… read more with them it's just my preference. I bought the MA540(12-54) and installed them today. They're definitely brighter than the MA130FX. I prefer that. Again, the MA130FX sound very nice so I'm not knocking them.
Great strings!
I love the sound of these strings on my Guild M120 (all mahogany). I had been using Martin or D'Addario silk and steel on this guitar for years and liked them very well but thought I would give the silk and phosphor a try. I wasn't disappointed. These new strings are much more resonant than regular silk and steel, especially in the bass strings and are just as playable for finger… read more style. I just ordered two more sets from Sweetwater. Will try them on one of the spruce top guitars, but they will be my go-to for the mahogany top.
My New Go To Strings
I'm primarily a finger style acoustic player. I've been playing silk and steel strings for a long time. Recently decided to try Martin's Flexible Core Silk & Phosphor. They sound so fabulous on my Taylor 400eR. I use the 11-47 gauge set and they allow me to play for a long time without finger fatigue. I've already ordered more sets to have ready for my next string change. I… read more really appreciate Sweetwater stocking this wonderful product. Thanks to Aric Ficek for assisting me in my Sweetwater purchases.
Lacking Durability/Okay tone
I usually use other Martin Flexcores so decided to try these with the silk. Everything was fine till the g string broke on a pretty routine bend(exactly why I bought flexcores for in the first place, flexibility, imagine that) literally a week after I put the strings on. Probably not buying again because its seems the durability isnt there at all. For contrast the other flexcores… read more I used before lasted much, much longer through rust and string abuse. The only postives for the silk and phosphur is they were very playable/flexible strings while they lasted. The tone is decent but I did feel like I lost some tonal quality going from normal flexcores to the silked ones, maybe due to thickness or mass differences between the sets or the silk itself. Hope this information was useful.
