Great sound!
These strings came stock on my HD-28 and they sound great. I see the reviews about them being tinny and it’s to be expected, they’re new strings. However, once they mellow out after a few plays they sound fantastic. Martin really did a great job with these, I have them on all of my acoustics. They do last far longer than any other brand of stings I have used. Satisfied customer.
Great Strings
I have a PRS A10e all mahogany guitar that has always been strong with D'addarios. There were some tonal qualities about this specific guitar that I wasn't totally in love with. There seem to be some low-end overtones that were a little overpowering and distracting, especially when miking it up for recordings. I spoke with my local guitar tech about the guitar when having it set… read more up and he suggested trying these Martin strings. I wasn't fully aware at how much different string brands can change the tonal characteristics of an acoustic guitar. For this specific guitar there was quite a change in the low end characteristics. The strings sound bright but balanced, and really rounded off the low end. The woofy 200Hz overtones are vastly diminished giving the guitar a significantly more pleasant and balanced sound. I could totally understand where for some guitars this might not be a desired effect, and all in all will be different from guitar to guitar, but in my case they made a guitar I wasn't super fond of a favorite.
Authentic Acoustic
The low E string (6th) is extremely brash and tinny sounding. It makes my Martin sound cheap. As a result I've purchased (elsewhere) some sets of the original strings that were on it when I bought it ... MSP4200. (I see Sweetwater doesn't carry them, in lieu of the new product I'm guessing. I'm hoping they were not discontinued by Martin, but they may have been.)
Current favorite
Tried these out on my always-out-of-the-case Yamaha- was shocked by the playability and sound. This was months ago- have bought sets. both light and mediums for my Martins and a replacement set for the Yamaha- still not needed. They stay in tune and don't seem to deprecate in sound. Ny past go-to has been Elixir Nanos. Will continue to compare back-to-back, but these are really… read more very, very impressive.
