Very Unknown and Underated
This is NOT just a shredders pick up. The tone is articalate. For lack of a better term, the notes seem to have a bit of "punch" to them. They are not overtly hot, just balanced, usable and clean up nicely. After installation I played like two chords and went, WOW these sound great. It reall was instantly noticeable. Someone else described this as EMGs version of the JB/Jazz set… read more from SD. I would agree with that in their balance and usefullness but these have their own voice. A bit less Mids and more "punch" I feel (and no insult to Mr. Friedman) that they may have the wrong endorcee for this set. This was never a set I would have picked on my own. I would have thoght this for high gain/ speed stuff. I went with this set based on the recomendation from EMG. The magic EMG solderless install is easy and straightforward, and should work for 95% of the time. I wanted to add Series/Parrallel and Phase switch options, so that takes some modifications since there is no kit or parts available for this from EMG. The only drawback I had was since the PUs have metal covers which have squarer shoulders and flare ever so slightly at the bases, They did not drop into the existing slots. So I had to do some routing to get them to fit. This could have just been this guitar but certainly you should test fit early in your installation. so 5 for the sound and 4 for the lack of drop in switching options and the sizing issue.
Party on garth
Man do these pickups smoke tone for breakfast. Awesome these are, recommend them I would....
Full sounding with lots of character
I upgraded a PRS SE Tremonti with these. It worked great because it brings everything, including 4 pots and all the wiring, etc. I also mid it to coil split the neck pickup. These sound great once you find your preferred sweet spot height wise. They respond to your picking dynamics and can be sweet, vocal, or aggressive based on your volume/tone knob settings as well as your… read more picking. I find myself mixing picking and finger picking in my phrasing with these. Hard to explain. These will probably become a best kept secret in the passive pickups world. That would be a shame because these rock!
Passive EMG HUGE sound
Upgraded an Epiphone Les Paul Standard I had laying around with these and now can't put it down! Easy install, no battery to mess with and sound great!
These pups are beautiful to look at and hear.
Not only do they sound kick*** (EMG!!!!) but they are beautiful to look at. Why can't bass pups ever look like this.
