I bought these to replace some Fishman Moderns. I had an initial honeymoon phase with the moderns. Something in the mids I just could not EQ out though. I wanted a more traditional active. Honestly I kind of expected it to be just an EMG 81 clone. If you watch interviews with Mick Thompson he knows his stuff and can actually say what went into something without just using buzzwords.… read more So everything that is good about the EMG 81 is present in this. It however has more response. With EMGs if I tried to accent a note it really didn't make much of a difference how hard I picked. These pick up your picking very well. These blackouts just have a nasty crunch to them that makes it standout. If you like active pickups and metal these will serve you very well. If you don't like active pickups or metal you do not want these.
