Top Shelf Capo! But it.....
I tried the top-of-the line G7 capo and it was very buzzy and took a lot of fiddling to try and get a clear sound. SO, I returned it and bought this, The Newport model. I felt the top-of-the-line G7 needed a way to tightening the grip on the neck. This NEWPORT model is a better capo because you have the tightening screw to tweak the grip. The sound is clear, crisp and no-buzzing.… read more I also love the low profile of this capo as it does not get in the way of my fingering..... The G7 Newport capo is a great capo. Highly recommend it.
Pure Gold
I couldn't be happier.
I wouldn't hesitate to get this thing, even if you don't need a capo!
Easy to use, accurate and clamps consistently. The screw adjustment seems to hold the strings more evenly, and so tends to pull/sharpen them less. Might just be my ears but my Taylor 916 seems a bit brighter than with other capos... Love it!
Excellent function and beauty combined
For a period of time, I"d tried a number of capos with my Taylor GA with less than stellar results. There was something about the combination of the Taylor radius and the 1¾ nut width that always left me lacking. It either effected the tone, left one or two strings less than adequately capo"d while the others were sufficient, etc. I tried an original G7th Performance, Performance… read more 2, Shubb, Dunlop, etc. After finally resolving that I"d just have to live with some discrepancies, I decided to give the G7th Newport a try. My first Newport was the black version. The moment I attached it and played through the strings, I immediately knew I"d reached the plateau. I was a clean sound that brought out nuances in the tone I would"ve never believed could be effected by a capo. I still don"t know what to attribute it to aside from possibly the slim profile. I only know that with the Newport, my Taylor sings with certain complexities in the overtones I"d never heard when playing with any other capo. I also appreciated the practical side. It"s kind of a middle place between a Shubb and a G7th Performance 2 in application. I found myself appreciating the fine tuning adjustment for dialing in just the right amount of tension. It"s not the best choice for someone who needs rapid changes, especially if you frequently change positions during the same song. If you commonly play with a capo however and value the tone overall when using one, this is a great choice. I purchased this gold model for 2 reasons. The first was as a backup for my black one. The second reason and to be painfully honest, was for pure vanity! My Taylor has gold keys, and I simply liked the idea of the matching tones. I have to say that I"m not disappointed. The gold performs right up to spec just like the black, exactly as expected. The other thing however is that it simply looks like a piece of elegant gold jewelry. It"s a classy look, the extra cost of which has no other practical benefit! It just looks cool! What else can I say, and would you really want it any other way?!!! I highly recommend it!
Great Capo
I have used other capos in the past like Kyser and Paige but found the G7th Newport Gold is much easier to use. Well worth the money.
