Very good neck pickup
I have a mahogany semi-hollow with a generous slab of maple on the top. It's natural tone has a blend of warmth and brightness. I am using the 36th Anniversary (dp 103) in the neck. It has a tight, spongy bass response and a chimney top end that I like. Since this pickup is designed with a '59 Les Paul in mind, I thought it would work well with my woods, and it does. Interestingly, this is one of DiMarzio s consitant top picks for the neck position when you use their Pickup Picker for semi-hollow bodies. I am happy with it in the bridge where it pairs flawlessly with the dp 103.
Sounds Great!
Put this in the neck position of my Telecaster and it sounds great. It's just the upgrade I needed. It's a bit brighter than I expected, but that's not a bad thing for the tone I typically go for.
Great Bang for the Buck (Series Parallel Wiring)
I wanted a nice set of pickups to upgrade a 97 Gibson Les Paul Studio that I got cheap. I was not ready to pay boutique prices for pickups for this guitar, so I did a bunch of reading to find the best pickups I could for a manageable price. These topped the list I made, so I cam to Sweetwater. I even found a pair of display models on discount. I wired these up with series/parallel… read more wiring in a classic LP configuration and plugged in to see what I had.... WOW!!!!!!!! I was richly rewarded with a beautiful array of tones. Series tones were just classic LP Humbuckers with amazing clarity and sparkle. Parallel tones were crystal clear with an almost Firebird like cut to them. Perfectly and beautifully quiet, but nearly single coil clarity and sparkle. I am so very pleased that I have purchased another set of these for my LP Traditional Plus and they certainly beat out the tones of the original pickups (particularly with the series/parallel wiring. These are the real deal.
