Wrong position, wrong direction...
As a bridge pickup, I'm not too keen on the DP261. But as a neck pickup (in the same guitar but with the 'north' coil towards the bridge) I absolutely love it! Just fat enough without having flubby low end, not too powerful, great dynamics, cleans up beautifully, tracks fast picking wonderfully... I could continue to wax poetic, but I'll try to remain succinct. Probably the two… read more most surprising things for me are that it sounds great when split (likely the coil that's being used has the lion's share of the power) and when used in parallel with the Sonic Ecstasy I have in the bridge position. It puts a smile on my face, which is more than I can say for every other neck humbucker I've laid ears on.
Fat and Crunchy
The tone I get out of this amazing pickup is just the kind of vintage fat and crunchy tone I was looking for! I have it in the bridge of an old first generation Ibanez Gio I had lying around, and it's brought a whole new heart to the guitar and pairs very well with a Dimarzio PAF 36th Anniversary I have in the neck.
