Universal pickup!!!
For universal players, who want to punch through the mix, not just cut through. I'm a strat guy, who wants to love this tele and the Pearly Gates for Tele is one great sounding single slot humbucker, sweeter than Hot Rails. I needed a bridge pickup to be thicker sound than traditional. Clear and articulate with a nice crunch but sounds full and sweet clean.
Really Wanted to Like This PUP
I usually don't leave bad reviews, and I like giving products the benefit of the doubt. In-fact, I've bought numerous Seymour Duncan PUPs in the past and have been very happy with them. However, I simply cannot get a good sound out of this pickup. It does not sound like a full sized Pearly Gates (which is an amazing humbucker), but rather sounds like a weak, muddy version of one.… read more I originally installed it in my tele with 250K pots and it was unbelievably dark and muddy. Switched out the pots for 500K, made it a little bit better, but still felt like I was cranking up the treble on Twin Reverb to compensate for the lack of high end the pup puts out. Finally tried 1 Meg pots, and STILL the pickup is too dark. Its unfortunate, because this pickup was rather expensive, and I could have just bought a full set of normal Seymour Duncan tele pickups for that price. Maybe SD will see this and try to resolve the issue.
