Exceptional Duncan set....
I really don't think there is such a thing as a bad or not so great Seymour Duncan pickup, they are all top shelf and it merely depends on what you're looking for in a pickup and the guitar. I use the hotrod set and thought I try these Bill G renderings. What a pinch harmonic delight, what's not to love?
The most articulate and clear sounding pickups
About a year and a half ago I bought a slightly used Epiphone Les Paul Studio Deluxe envisioning these pickups in it to play blues, rock, and slide. I replaced the wiring harness with a mojotone solderless long shaft wiring harness and then put these pickups into it. These pickups are the best sounding pickups I have ever played. They are super clear and precise and pickup every… read more detail with superb articulation. If you want that hallowed '59 burst sound then these are for sure what you're looking for. They are a bit hotter but are amazing used clean or overdriven/distorted.
Amazing sounding!!
I had these put into a custom ES-175 that I had built, and the combination is the best sounding guitar out of any I own. Better than my Gibson Les Paul Studio, Gibson SG, Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster, Fender American Standard Telecaster, Epiphone Casino, or my Gretsch 5420. Seymour Duncan really lives up to it's reputation!
Pearly Gates
Just finished loading these guys onto my HH Strat. The tail pickup is not quite as hot as the Fender Atomic something but is still plenty hot and the versatility is phenom. These pickups appear extremely responsive to different picking styles. From "Moonlight In Vermont", to Chuck Berry, to some country stuff, their attack/response appears to follow my picking style nicely. Am very… read more happy w/the change.
The Pearly Gates are Heaven Sent
I use Les Pauls to record almost everything. Two of my favorites lacked clarity when I played different parts in a song. (Not enough detail to the notes I was playing) Some people I have worked with in the past used EMG but I didn't want that type of sound or a battery to worry about. I talked to Charlie Powers, of Guitar C.P.R. in Fairmont, WV, and he suggested the Seymour Duncan… read more Pearly Gates as a solution to my problem. He was spot on as always with his suggestion. In fact I love these pickups so much I have now purchased three sets for my Les Pauls. As a result I now find myself going back and re-recording tracks that I had thought to be finished. To my ear the Pearly Gates pickups made that much of a difference. I would also like to say thank you to my Sweetwater Sales Engineer Randy Poteet. Randy always goes that extra mile for me no matter if it's about the information of a product, questions or price. So if you're looking for a great Sales Engineer give Randy a call @ 800-222-4700 x1780. And if you're lacking that detail in your guitar sound, give the Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates a try. I'm thankful I did. Take care and may God bless Jon
