Must have for classical guitarists who use capos
For the acoustic guitars in my studio (steel, 12-string, classical) I have been using a premium brand capo that employs interchangeable fret pads designed for necks of varying fretboard radii. While this is a good idea in its own right, doing this for a capo body design with a one-size-fits-all contact arm length has not proven optimal for all neck types, especially classical. This… read more consequence arises from the economization of fretboard contact arm length used in my current brand to deliver its single body, multiple fret pad configuration.Having had issues with sound dampening, tuning, and fret headroom the past couple of years, I decided to keep an eye open for a better solution. When I saw the new G7 Performance 2 Classical I decided to give it a try. I picked one up from Sweetwater for $... (40% less expensive than my go-to brand) and was pleasantly surprised at the improvement. The P2 Classical is just 3/8" wide at the closed end whereas my existing capos are almost 9/16". The effective length of the fretboard arm is about 7/16" greater on the P2 Classical, a substantial gain for a flat classical neck. There is no sound dampening (i.e., 5 out of 6 string coverage) or tuning issue with this capo, making it a significant upgrade to my fleet of gear. It also provides all the conveniences demonstrated in the manufacturer's video pitch, further making it worthy of the 5-star rating I have given it.
