AC/DC-ify your guitar
I have a limited edition Gibson SG standard from 2014 that had Alinco 2 57 classic pickups in it with a coil tap. Sounds great obviously. Medium output bluesy Classic rock tone for days. A few years ago I recently acquired a LP Standard with burstbuckers. I began to use this as my go to Gibson dual humbucker guitar sound and needed some small change to differentiate my SG in my… read more collection. Gibson purists might think this is a bad call to put in an SG or any Gibson for that matter. People see this and think Gretsch. I have played Gretsch guitars with filtertrons But this thing is a different animal. First of all its humbucker sized which makes it slightly girthier than the standard tv jones sized smaller gretsch pickup. You can drop it into a humbucker guitar perfectly. It has humbucker like qualities and has some famous SD hotness given alnico V magnet. However you also get some of that punchiness and cleanness that a filtertron has in a bridge pickup due to the pole positions being closer together. Malcolm young famously got his sound from that. When I saw this I thought this pickup could serve as a happy medium between Malcolm and angus tone and would honestly be a great sound to drop in my SG because they obviously SG is the signature guitar for AC/DC. Then when I play or record with my band if I need something that sounds closer to an AC/DC tone I go with this over my Les Paul. I play a lot of rhythm guitar in my band these days but do bust out the guitar occasional solo. This pickup gives me the ability to both and have a unique tone on my SG that my LP can't exactly do. Sounds good clean too. I was a bit afraid to do this at first but it worked out awesome. This thing sounds exactly like vintage AC/DC when in a Gibson played through some British like dirt pedal or amp. A very unique design by Seymour Duncan that id recommend. My SG is an AC/DC machine now with this in the bridge. Plus I can blend it really well with the smoother Alinco 2 humbucker I already have in the bridge and works with the coil tapping that was on my guitar previously. Turned out awesome!
S D Psyclone Pickups
Installed the neck pickup first and loved it, so bought and put the bridge in next. These pickups sound amazing, I installed them in my Squire Strat. I have never seen this type of PU in a Strat so my curiosity is laid to rest now. The Strat sounds like I wanted to, outstanding ! Speaking of outstanding Ben Porter and the Sweetwater team are #1. P.S. love the candy.
