Whoa... AMAZING...
Okay, I've had these for a couple of weeks now, and my life has changed... hahahaha! Seriously, I've been a lifelong EMG user (since the early 80's), it all started with the 85 in the bridge and I remember the sound hitting me like a hammer. Since then, I've played with the 81 (didn't like it), tried several of the X Series, and really loved the 57. Pretty much for years it was… read more the 85 and 57 with various single coils and dug them all. Grabbed a RetroActive Fat 55 set and was blown away and how different they were (now in two guitars). Grabbed a new Charvel DK24 HH HT M and wanted to see if EMG could do a 57 with gold pole pieces with the traditional black cover. They were great, but said they could only do it with the passives. I was leaning toward the Marty Friedman set, but I started watching/listening to all of Prashant Aswan's video demos of his Revelation Set and just kept hearing something really rich and detailed in the mids that kept me coming back to the videos to listen. Decided to go for it and SO glad I did... There's a distinctive 'tightness' to them that you only find in EMG's, but make no mistake, they are passive... open, clear, dynamic, yet can be wonderfully aggressive if need be... and the cleans, oh my stars and garters... I can't put my new guitar down with this Revelation Set. So dynamic and rich, yet has that passive open feel. EMG did it right... AGAIN.
