This is a beautiful neck. Frets were level. No sharp frets and the quality is good. The 3 stars part. This neck feels like a plank in your hands. The neck is wide and I have had more comforatabnle necks on Squier basses. The fret spacing is too wide also. Not a neck for smaller hands. Lastly, the nut. Why Fender insists on using these brittle cheap nuts is beyond me. They have to read more be the cheapest thing Fender can find. These nuts are very brittle so you'd better be careful when you file the slots down. Oh, didn't I mention that. For this price they just give you starter slots. You have to file the nut down on this which I assure you is treacherous. Forget about putting in a Tusq nut also. These are glued in heavily and would need to be cut out to do that risking damage to this neck. I have this one my P-Bass now. I thought this neck would be a nice upgrade but I have to say looks aside, I like my old neck much better.

As soon as I unboxed this neck, I was astonished by the quality of it. I got it because my current one had its truss rod broken and wouldn't let me adjust the action to the proper height; At first I thought the extra lows of my 1997 squier p-bass would be gone by the time the swap was done; I was totally wrong: It actually boosted the deep lows. I couldn't be happier about it :) read more The neck feels great; excellent playability, no sharp edges on frets. Now, about the looks: Yes, roasted maple does look darker in real life compared to the pictures, but my old neck was as dark as this one, so I really didn't mind that part. I must say that the pictures really do no justice to the real kicker which is the glossy finish on the front. Under the light, this thing is mesmerizing: at the beginning I almost couldn't take my eyes off of it. So, for those concerned about switching to a darker tone wood, I must say you won't get disappointed at all. The gloss finish on the fretboard is so captivating that you will instantly dismiss the looks from the back. Regarding the installation, you do need some work on the wood though. The pilot holes were not aligned to the ones in the pocket (at least mines weren't), a little sanding job was required on the tuner holes, and also the nut did come slightly pre slotted, but had to file them down to the proper fit, so expect to do some work on this neck!

Fantastic Upgrade!

The neck is darker in person than in pictures but still gorgeous. It's also a bit beefier than I expected, feeling closer to a 50s neck than a modern, but this is actually a plus for me as I prefer a thicker neck profile. The fretwork is good, and the satin finish on the back makes for incredibly smooth playing. I put it on to a Squier VM p-bass that I've been tinkering with, and read more the results have been fantastic.

Great neck!

I paired this with a player series p bass body I got on Ebay. It is stable, it sounds unique and excellent, and is beautiful. I give it 4 stars because the nut was slotted a little off IMO. The E is slightly wide. It’s Different than the dozen p necks I’ve checked since buying it. I wish that it was pre cut (not just slotted) and ready to go like most aftermarket necks. read more My advice would be get your luthier to cut a nut based in something you like. That said, once it’s set up it sounds great and looks better than any neck I’ve ever seen.
