Really really nice strings
they went on a gretsch 5230t and boy o boy where they the perfect string for that guitar, evened out the bass frequencies not to mention it stays in tune better and the added tensions keeps the bigsby in tune, chords sound alot better, makes my deluxe reverb sound alot less boomy with that guitar
A return to the best strings
I had forgotten how much I liked these strings. They stopped making them for a time yet they were a fav of SRV and Johnson. The Rollerwound makes them semi flats and gesssh are they high quality, great feeking and sounding strings. Also much easier on the fret wear and they intonate better. I realize now how much I dislike the feel and overall tension of round wounds plus the fret… read more wear. These nickel strings are just outstanding and don't but into the semi flats being "jazz" strings or mellow. If you want to call something like Tool "Jazz" then that's OK by me but these strings are great. SRV seemed to burn w them as well. Eric Johnson obviously knows tone. These sound great on all levels of gain, they're easier to play, no squeak. My new fav string, not to cut my D'Addario's I have used for ages but semi flat wound nickels are it for me.
My favorite stringa
Have used these for years. Switched to NYXL strings for a bit. When u went back to these, I remembered why they were my favorites. Sweet tone, last longer, and stay in tune better. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
Solid
My fingers corrode strings fast, these have been solid with much slower wear then other, excellent tuning stability and sound good, they have a smooth feel for slides and are holding up well.
Super
A salesman at a local chain store who works their high end Les Paul corner where you have to ask to handle the guitars exclaimed one day that GHS Nickel Rockers are actually the best strings out there. I bought a set on his word but I had been a fan of the NYXLs and Elixirs. The GHS Nickel Rockers have a character I can best put as "less is more". Don't take that to mean they are… read more really less in any regards, it's just that notes, especially in chords and "busy" riffs seem to keep a clearer differentiation from each other than stings that are partly steel. The Nickel Rockers are plenty bright but not shrill. I cover Cream's version of Robert Johnson's "Crossroads" and when using other brands, the bend of the A string at the third fret with pull-off to open A that prefaces the main riff disappears with a new set of NYXLs. Not so with GHS Nickel Rockers. You get great balance and a full and distinctive sound fit for the best electric guitars on the market. Why spend more for the fancy name and packaging or coating? Try these. They last very well and have made a devotee of me. They let me "see the sound".
