My long search is over!
I take most manufacturers descriptions of products with a grain of salt. But in this case Seymour Duncan's description of this being in between a PAF 59 and a modern (Custom) pickup is spot on. I wanted a versatile pickup that would clean up well and go from AC/DC tone to blizzard of ozz. Obviously 70's classic rock fits in between them and it does. I don't like when manufacturers… read more name their pickups because I Feel it pigeonholes my brain to the sound they name the pickup or the player they put on the cover. This pickup feels like a 50's PAF but cranks my JCM800 SC extremely well! It's a fantastic pickup and gave me the HSS Strat I could take for 90% of gigs. The other 10% would be either a really clean to dirty pickup (I.e Seth lover) or a really hot/Metal pickup (JB, Deactivator or Blackout) This falls in between like SD says. I have the JB in another guitar and like the SNS hands down. JB is too icy for my taste. I'm very happy with my Strat now. I have SD Alnico II in the neck and Middle which are friggin great!! And with the SNS I can play songs from every era and style. A perfect grab one guitar and go set up. If they had named it something else besides SNS I might have bought it a while ago after hearing it fits in between cleaner PAF's and metal pickup. Hope this helps. Its an excellent pickup!!
Growly pickup!
I love the vintage output pickups but wanted something with just a little more growl but not over the top. This pickup delivered! I put this in my Les Paul and it sounds Great! Slighty hotter with more snarl. Check out Eric Steckel on youtube if your curious to the sound of the pickups, that is what he uses.
Looking for a bridge pickup for my lp
First off , I want to thank Simon, for helping nail down the choice! It was a prefect choice i' be tried 6 others and never been happy with them, never really was on the same tonal range as sh -1 n or old 59 neck pickup by Seymour duncan. It fits perfectly with the old 59 less the darkness. Same exact tonal range but brighter, but not in a bad way. Just right for the bridge. I've… read more read alot of reveiws and alot of I don't agree with said it was a flat pickup and no bass. With my 82 lp that is not the case, if you have a good amp it will be evident that is not the case. Well balanced with great tone and matches the sh-1n/ old 59 prefectly.
