Schecter Damien Platinum 7 Review

The Bat inlays are everything as is the accentuated string-thru-body aesthetic.

This is a great guitar. I love how the fretwork feels. (They are rounded off or something). The pick-ups sound great. The tuners are top-notch. Even the detailed pictures that Sweetwater posts have difficulty conveying how nice this guitar is. It's all in the details. It holds tune great and looks fantastic. The EMG pickups, of course, sound amazing. The only point of concern is a screw to hold in the tuner for the seventh string either backed out at some point or wasn't properly seated. Easy fix with a screwdriver but SW should have caught it during the 55-point if not caught by Schecter before shipping.

Amazing Guitar | Quality Product

I don't even believe the negative reviews that is guitar has, this is the best guitar I ever owned! Well, next to my LTD EC1000, and the LTD costs about $... more than this Schecter. I went for a 7 string even though I was still a beginner but I couldnt resist, this Platinum 7 was just too cool to pass up and Im glad I went for it. Upon unboxing this beauty I could just see the quality and it got even better once I picked it up and held it, and once I plugged it in I was heaven. I could tell right away it was miles ahead of my super cheap Ibanez or any guitar that Ive played up until that point, in feel, in sound, and in looks. Dont know what these bad review are talking about, I had this guitar for a little more than a year before selling it on Reverb and I never had any issue with it whatsoever, it was a quality piece of guitar. The only reason I sold it was because 7 strings was overkill for me as Im still a beginner guitarist. I ended up going back to a 6 string, a more expensive 6 string (EC1000) and the Platinum 7 was on par with it. I ever decide I want another 7 string, or 8 string, Im totally getting this Schecter again!

The wrong guitar for me

This is the first guitar I have ever bought, that I have been deeply disappointed in. I love most of my guitars, and if they weren't perfect when I bought them, I made them perfect with upgrades. This, however, is the most incorrigible instrument I ever played. When the strings are all connected, and tuned up, it is pretty good. But, and it is a big BUT, should a string break, it… read more is doomsville. At least for me. I have always played guitars that string through body or not, always relied on that little ball at the end of 6 string Ernie balls, that allowed you to pull up the tension, and tune your strings. THIS AXE DOESNT DO THAT,! it forces you to turn the guitar, belly up, and requires you to cut the little balls off of your 7 string and go through a tenuous routine where you hike up the bridge with some kind of cork or something, and press pressure on the end of the string where the little ball SHOULD HAVE BEEN!! The problem being, if you are not perfect at getting the bridge up, you can end up putting a whole new set of (expensive) 7 string strings, only to see them pop, one at a time, requiring you to purchase a half dozen or a dozen of said broken strings, in the attempt to restring it. (Ernie ball does not sell individual 7- string strings- you must buy half a dozen or a dozen at a time) so cost needs to be added to the list of problems here. I probably shouldn't have bought such a radically different guitar at age 60, cause this old dog cannot seem to get the hang of this new string change trick. Bottom line, you have to be a pretty good technician to figure this procedure and perform it correctly. What this means is, I'll need to uber my way over to my guitar tech's place and pay him to replace this FR7 's strings every few months, or every time a string breaks.. I don't think so. I have a Ric 12 that I have to farm out for new strings, but I don't change those but every other year. I have zero interest in paying both a driver and my guitar tech to keep this FR-7 going, every few months or every time I break a string. In summary, this was the wrong guitar for me. I just had no way of knowing this at the time I bought it. This guitar has some interesting features, but it is not worth all these hassles.This Schecter was a huge disappointment for me.

Shred City

The title of my review is misinformed, I am actually crap at playing guitar, but this guitar gave me +15 to my guitar playing skill. I was only a level 3 shredder, but after playing this I gained at least 6 levels. Super smooth neck and frets, best tuning gears I've ever used, fantastic sounding pickups, and tapping/sweeping sounds like I'm a metal GOD! I tricked my wife into thinking… read more I actually know how to play this instrument. She came home one day yelling, "Turn that **** radio down!" You can only imagine her surprise when she walked in my room to find, in fact, it was not Dave Mustaine coming from the radio, but lowly me hammering on my new axe! I didn't even have to sell my soul to the devil, best value guitar I have ever purchased! Well worth it! As for the other dude's review, not to diminish it ( I usually only do that to my arpeggios), try changing out your cables. Or bust off the ground post on the power cable to your amp, then it wont hum, plus you play 10x faster when you're getting zapped with 120V! Alternatively, you can also try playing while skydiving like Skwisgaar Skwigelf. Make sure you ask for Nich when you buy it, that guy is 10/10! Sweetwater best make sure that guy stays longer than this review! Give that guy a raise!! Hands down the best experience I've had buying a guitar.

If you are looking for a 7 string ....look no further

This is one awesome guitar paired with EMG 81/85 active pick-ups, Crystal clear when it's played clean and rips with distortion......I originally was looking to get a Ibanez 7 string (the apex20 to be exact) and thought I would take a look at this and I am glad I did, The neck is nice, smooth and fast, you will get a ton of compliments on the bat inlays, It is very solid and well… read more built .....If you are looking for a versatile 7 string axe you will not go wrong with this
