THAT Sound!
I dropped one of these in the bridge of my Les Paul and could not be happier. It growls like a pit bull or roll off the volume and make it purr like a kitten. If you're looking for the sound of rock n roll, this pickup produces THAT sound. Should out to Cody Kraus who always makes it easy doing business with Sweetwater!
Upgrade from Duncan Design
I upgraded the stock, Duncan Design HB102 humbuckers in my Schecter C-1 E/A (semi-hollow, humbucker, piezo) with a '59 bridge and neck from Sweetwater (awesome customer service!. I didn't change pots or caps and simply spliced the '59s, so there weren't any mods. The tone of these pickups with the Schecter C-1 E/A is great and a significant improvement over the stock Duncan Designs… read more which I found muddy - even after trying different height adjustments over the strings - the Duncan Designs were flat, dull and bass heavy. When blending the humbuckers with the piezo, that dull, heavy bass works well with the piezo's bright, acoustic quality, but when it was humbucker only, it was an uninspiring tone. The '59 model is wide and has a smooth distortion. I find that the neck pickup needs to be set low, which really improves upon note and chord clarity while still sounding bold. I find that playing the '59 neck pickup with the piezo works very well together (high/low) and I can flip the bridge and turn the piezo off to play great distortion. I consider these pickups to be a great upgrade and encourage anybody who owns a Schecter C-1 E/a with the original pickups, to do this swap. It really makes a big difference.
I love these Duncan 59’s!
I replaced the muddy undefined pickups in an old Epiphone Les Paul with these and now it sounds great. They’re articulate and bright without being brittle, they’re warm and buttery if you roll the tone back a bit. The neck and bridge are well matched and complement each other well. I spent a lot of time watching demos of various pickups online and I’m happy to say these… read more 59s perfectly suit my purpose and I couldn’t be happier with them.
