After owning this bass for a few weeks I would like to add to my first review. The rolled edge fingerboard is a great touch. The body contours on this bass are usually only found on more expensive instruments. The body taper at the neck heel is another nice feature. The tuning key posts are tapered for a nice and secure string wind. This instrument is quickly becoming my main bass. read more I have installed a nice old set of D'Addario Chromes flatwound strings that compliment this bass perfectly for several styles of music. Other than the strings nothing on this bass needs to be upgraded.

A very pleasant surprise.

I'm one of those guys who's been playing bass guitar for 50 years. I've owned more basses than I can remember. I had a motorcycle accident that ruined the rotation of my left wrist so I could no longer play my 5 string basses. I'm only comfortable playing short scale basses or very thin neck jazz style basses. I decided to order a Marcus Miller U5 (Sire) and I'm glad I did. The read more workmanship is excellent on my Sire bass. The fret work is perfect. The rolled edge fingerboard is perfect. The tuning keys are not perfect but are acceptable. The pickup cavity's are shielded. The veneer maple top and binding to the alder body are perfectly constructed. The tail piece and saddles are excellent. The pickups sound great and I will not be replacing them. I think Mr Miller made sure if his name was going to be on an instrument it better be good. This level of sound and construction at this price is incredible. I'm so happy to have a bass that sounds great and I can play comfortably for several hours. Thank you Mr Miller.
