Excellent choice to fatten up your tone!
I purchased this to replace the stock bridge pickup in my PRS Silver Sky. It was a direct drop in. The stock was harsh on the higher frequencies and thin sounding. I wanted a higher output with a bit fatter sound with rolled off highs. This pickup achieved it all for me. Now I can get some nice rock and even metal tones with the Silver Sky. It made the guitar more well rounded… read more in my opinion.
Great as a neck pickup as well
I understand the reason many pickup designers use less gain on their neck pickups, but I tend to use the neck pickup for soloing a LOT. I have an old 80s Vandenberg that I did not want to hack a big hole in to install a neck humbucker and was looking for something in the ballpark of the stock Vandenberg pickup, which is pretty hot and based off the Duncan JB from what I've found… read more researching it. The hotrails bridge worked well output-wise, but was too muddy and thick in comparison to the Vandenberg bridge, so I thought Id give the JB Jr. Bridge a shot in the neck position. It was only slightly less output but more highs and less lows. It worked perfectly. Definitely confirmed what I'd read about the bridge pickup being a JB clone because they have an almost identical tonal footprint and sound very close. The stock pickup is a little hotter and grainier, but they complement each other perfectly. I just wanted to throw that out there for anyone else looking for a bright, high output single coil sized pickup for the neck position of their guitar.
Beast!
Put this in a strat build to replace the standard strat bridge pickup. Game changer! I have always liked the super strat sound. This thing is a beast now!
Happy happy
Popped this bad boy into the bridge position of my Squier 70s Vintage Modified Strat and I could not be happier. Great tones for blues to metal. Just a little grit or serious gain, this thing sounds fantastic. And as always, world class support and handling of the order by Sweetwater. Happy happy.
This pickup delivers
The Seymour Duncan JB Jr. is one hell of a fine pickup in a single coil-sized package. I installed the JB Jr. in the bridge, a Duckbucker in the middle position and the Duncan Little '59er in the bridge. It's a great combination made more versatile with a custom wiring setup.I decided to build a custom Strat from aftermarket parts and wanted it to be a serious rock and blues guitar… read more and with this pickup in the bridge, I can really make a statement in my solos. It has great harmonics, sounds really good with overdrive and other pedals and with the volume rolled off, I get a still powerful, but cleaner tone. What can I say, it works well for me. If you have a Strat and are looking for more power in the bridge, this pickup is an excellent choice.
