Classic Spector Great Looks and Amazing Sound
I have long felt that Spector has turned out some of the most beautiful-looking basses, and this one is nothing short of a work of art. There is not a flaw in workmanship on this bass, from the finish to the fretwork to the electronics. If you are a Fender fan (as I have been for many years), you will find the neck to be very comfortable, somewhat more substantial than a Jazz… read more neck but much less chunky than a P neck. I have a Fender Jazz Bass Special (i.e., the "Duff McKagan" bass) and find the neck profile on this Spector to be similar to that. The neck-through design, however, means that there is no neck-pocket heel, so if you are inclined to play up the neck you will find that you have unfettered access to the upper frets. I have played 5- and 6-string Spectors over the years, all of them Asian-made models. This is my first 4-string as well as my first Euro. For what it is worth, I tried a Euro LT 5-string and found the neck profile to be uncomfortable; nothing could be farther from that with this bass. If you are looking for a smooth-sounding bass that will replace a retro-style Fender P bass, this is NOT your instrument. If you are looking for a bass that is capable of a wide range of modern sounds, and especially if you want a bass that can be off-the-chart aggressive sounding, this is what you want. The tone controls do allow a wide range of options, but the bass still always seems to keep an aggressive bite to it even with the treble knob rolled all the way off. I am very happy with this bass, it has become quickly one of my go-to instruments. It plays and sounds amazing.
Impressive quality, excellent tone!
This Bass was my first purchase from Sweetwater. I decided to go with the demo model and save a few bucks under the impression that this might have some flaws. When it arrived, I was blown away. Not only could I not find any flaws with this bass, but the tone it produced was incredible. The finish on this is phenomenal and I love playing this bass for hours on end!
Can't put it down
I love this bass. It looks incredible, has excellent craftsmanship and detail. The neck in my opinion is just right. Not to thin and not to thick. Very comfortable and playable. The bass fits perfectly against your body and at 8.6lbs, it's not a drag on your shoulder and back. The tone and clarity are second to none. Each pickup has an individual volume control and the Spector… read more Tone Pump really let's me dial in the perfect tone. My new fav bass and I can't put it down. I recommend picking one up. Thanks to my sales rep Brandt Miller and the rest of the Sweetwater team. You guys are the best.
Great bass
I've always played spector basses and this one doesn't disappoint with the dark glass preamp you have so many tonal options and the bass is so awesome looking I'm glad I picked this color and thanks to my Sweetwater tech Tom Koch for always being available and helping with every purchase
Surprisingly noisy for an active bass
I was tremendously excited about this bass. I figured the EMG pickups would be quiet, but go figure that the TonePump was not. Nor does it have detents to show neutral trim of the EQ. In fact, the bass eq goes -4db to +12db, so odd to know where neutral is at all. I asked for help from Spector and then again the guy that designed the TonePump. Neither replied. Also, the bass is… read more nose-heavy and quite unbalanced to wear. I went with a Music Man Stingray Special, which is remarkably quiet, quite balanced to wear, and has EQ with detents that make sense.
Amazing
I have been a Spector player for 14+ years. Absolutely loved the midrange punch, the feel, the playability.... and this was the lower end models. I have a Rex Brown model with holoflash finish and a Custom Classic, both with EMG active setups. Then I ante up for the Euro NS with Bartolini actives and the Dark water Active pre-amp. I am always hesitant about making a bass purchase… read more without any hands on time prior to purchase, but I went out on a limb and WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED! Tone is magical... Feel is exquisite... Quality is impeccable. I am afraid that I have set a new standard for myself and I won’t be able to settle for anything of lesser quality. Clint at Sweetwater did an excellent job of facilitation my purchase and I could not be happier with my buying experience, or the quality instrument I purchased!
Amazing instrument
This isn’t a cheap bass obviously, but it’s much cheaper than the American-made Spectors. Nonetheless I can’t see or hear anything that would make me want to buy the US models. This bass has great tone, lots of versatility, and sustain that goes on forever. It’s light, ergonomic, and a joy to play. Lastly, it’s simply a gorgeous instrument. I’ve had it almost 6 months… read more now and I love it more every day.
Golden Eye, WOW!
I went online and saw this beautiful golden bass. I like the fact that Sweetwater shows the pictures of the actual bass you are buying. This bass is a work of art! I own over 10 other beautiful bass guitars and I think this may be the best one so far. My sales person was very helpful. Great bass guys! My only complaint is that it did not come with hard case. The bag case is nice… read more but not worthy of Holding such a nice bass.
