This compressor pedal has only one knob, amount of compression. The adjusting is programmed in. I use it on a nylon string classic contrabass guitar , and on a string bass . On the guitar it equalizes the harmonic humps inherent to acoustic instruments. It maintains the presence throughout the range. On the string bass it does the same and also allows me to not pull the strings so… read more hard in order to have the punch needed in a rhythm section. My rt hand can get painful due to arthritis. This helps. It's tiny. it doesn't sound electronic. It allows the natural tone of the instrument to cut through. The support at Sweetwater is the best . I spoke with a tech before making the purchase and also bought the 9 volt Volto rechargeable battery pack.
Best hands down
I normally do not use any effects with my bass but I thought I would give the SpectraComp bass compression pedal from tc electronics a shot. From the first moment I could definitely hear a difference. I totally recommend it to anyone who want to have every note stand out.....
Tame the "B"east!
I play a 5 string that has a pretty boomy low B. Truth is, this problem has a lot to do with my setup (low B is really close to the pickups compared to other strings). The action is perfect, and there"s no way I"m changing that setup! Most compressors sound great, until I play a really low note along with an octave or a 10th note. The compressor either squashes the higher notes… read more down too much, or it allows too much low end. With the Spectra Comp, I was able to dial in the crossover to get a little more compression and limiting on those low B notes, and let the higher notes ring out. Also, this was all possible due to being able to customize my own tone print. Gotta love that! It didn"t take long to create my own great sounding toneprint, but you can certainly spend way too many hours using the toneprint editor if you"re a tweaker like me!
As one dimensional or complex as you want...
This thing is a little underwhelming at first sight. And the default setting is probably sufficient for some. BUT, get to digging around inside, and the possibilities are endless. It will very quickly do wonders for your sounds and tone. After a mild learning curve it is simple to use. Heads up, the default setting wors well with the knob positioned in the 9:00 or 10:00 o'clock… read more range (in case like me you start off thinking that wide open would be better) Enjoy!
Great Comp pedal
My rep, Sean, gave me the recommendation for this pedal and it exceeds my expectations! I was looking at comp pedals and they were all more expensive than this one. So after doing some research on YouTube I decided to go with it. For my first comp pedal I am really happy with it and the compression I get with it.
