Great tones !
Ok, the good and bad. Its got great sound until totally cranked. Gets sakey compression. Due to single ended el34. My fix. I recone speakers for my second job. Put a reconed vintage 30 in it.16 ohm 25 watt paper voice coil. 1777 undopped cone. 100 bd plus specs. And amp tech intalled a 3 henry choke. The choke tightens up sag. I don't use boost mode. Its chip based grind. But dine… read more volome and gain. Its awesome ! Usex with ep boost and jetter grissom pedal. It a tone machine ! Loud enough for drums !
Dream Combo Amp
Old-School Marshall Plexi tones in a light combo amp with an effects loop, single channel simple panel layout! This amp is rated at 10 watts which means you can really wind it up and get some of the prettiest, full of rich tones sounds at a very gigable volume. It's surprisingly loud for what it is. My Strat and Les Paul both shine in their areas of strength with this amp. I can't… read more believe that an amp of this caliber was this inexpensive. Wow…. Blackstar found a really nice niche in the market with this one. I love it! Originally I was looking to replace my Blackstar HT5R for a Mrkii model until I saw and heard this. I have no regrets about my decision. This amp is way beyond the HT5R. Killer clean and dirty tones! Amazing! :)
Incredible Amp
I never write reviews (ever), but I had to write one on this amp. This is an incredible amp, perfect for getting British blues and classic rock tones, and it has a beautiful clean tone that can go from round and thick to sparkly with a turn of the tone control. Sounds great with a Strat, sounds great with a Les Paul. Playing with the tone and gain knobs you can get an array of awesome… read more sounds: I haven't found a tone in it that I don't like. I think it's probably too loud for apartments, but for house use you can get thick overdriven tones at relatively low volumes by adjusting gain and master. Yet it is still loud enough to shake the windows if you open it up. It is just a perfect, simple amp for getting classic British rock and blues sound at home, worth every penny and probably more. I'll wrap up by saying that Sweetwater is the best place to shop for gear online (though I think by now everyone knows that).
Home run
When I first plugged into this amp I was thinking oh no I don't like it,but I didn't take into account for breaking in the speaker. At first the bass was a little farty sounding but after a few hours of playing it loud it started coming alive. Once the speaker breaks in it has the perfect amount of growl without to much of the fizz. Don't let the 10 watts fool you this thing is… read more LOUD, it is plenty for most gigs. Metal guys will want to add some sort of boost or overdrive pedal as it isn't supper high gain. Controls are stupid simple and work well, some may want to use and eq pedal if your one of those that likes to really tweak with there tone but the tone knob does a really nice job as is. If your looking for a simple, small, gigable amp you will be hard pressed to find a better deal than this amp!
Blackstar Studio 10 EL34
Amazing Amp! Boost off is a wonderful bluesy clean moving to crunch as you increase the gain. The boost takes it to another level, I consider it a separate channel not just a boost, and between the two you can get everything from really nice deep cleans to wicked searing leads. It is very lightweight but incredibly loud, as loud as you'll ever need considering it has a line out… read more to send to a mixing board for gigging (it also doubles as a headphone jack). The character of this amp comes out when you crank it so I implore you to do that!! The tone control when it is at low volume is just that, but with it cranked the tone control really becomes more as advertised, that of moving the amp from an "American" voice to a "British" voice by dialing it up. I can get this amp to give me a great clean strat sound, twangy telecaster, creamy humbucker sustain, classic crunch and screaming overdrive. Oh, and it has a nice reverb too. Honestly, for the price I don't see how you can go wrong. This is my smallest, least expensive amp...and my new hands down favorite. I'm going to be selling a few of mine now, this one can do it all.
