Quality control and Synergy communications issues
Its a well designed amp but after exchanging 3 different 30 watt combo amps due to poor manufacturing issues and smug email exchanges from synergy customer service, I am not a fan of the companies customer service at all. I do like the modules very much. Sweetwater did a good job making sure a suitable exchange took place but it did take 3 amps to get it right. Customer service… read more emails exchanges from synergy were condescending and terse. Phone calls unreturned. Not a fan.
Excellent amp
If you suffer from Tone Attention Deficit Disorder like me and are always buying and selling depending on that months mood....this is THE amp to get. I've owned the Egnater and Randall versions and there is NO comparison. The SYNERGY amp sounds "boutique". What I mean by that is in regards to dynamics. Pick and the notes are immediate and full of tone and harmonics (when playing… read more the built in clean channel). There is a bright switch and a midrange switch that goes from a "Voxy" British chime to a fuller "Fender-ish" American tone. Now the modules. I currently have a Freidman Dirty Shirley and Morgan AC module. The Dirty Shirley is excellent. Very rich, detailed, harmonic and cleans up nicely with guitar volume. Also, its very usable at low bedroom volumes. The volume control tapers up nicely. The AC module isn't as "bedroom friendly" as the Freidman but still usable in an apt setting or with others in a separate room. Great Vox chime with smooth gritty overdrive. Great part is that all modules have a 3 position cathode bypass capacitor switch that allows you to tailor the bass response at the gain stage. This can really tighten up the tone on the low and high end. Too much bass at high gain also affects the top end. I like the Morgan AC at the 1uf cap setting. I have a Plexi (Freidman design) coming in today. Can't wait. I plan to get all modules (except super high gain metal ones....not my forte). My understanding is that more "boutique" modules are in the works. So far the modules are indeed very well made, excellent tone capacitors used in the coupling stages. Sounds as good or better than other amps in the price range, even just on its own. Get it, it will be the last amp you need. I'm not even throwing in the fact of direct recording, midi capable, foot switch include, etc.
