Great guitar for a first time player and beyond!
I've been a musician for a long time but this is my first guitar. I was originally looking for something with a mahogany top for looks but after doing a bit of research, settled on cedar for what I read would be a warm, balanced response. Even better - the cedar looks amazing! I've never really been a fan of spruce top guitars. They just look so plain to me and the cedar has… read more a bit of color and really nice grain. I first heard a Takamine guitar many years ago and made a mental note that I liked the way it sounded. Fast forward to 2020 and I bought the GN20NS sight unplayed. I intentionally chose a guitar without electronics because I rarely hear really good built-in pickups. I wanted to choose my own when the time came (LR Baggs M80 is on the wishlist). The split bridge is nice, and though I haven't restrung it, I imagine I will appreciate it being pinless. I'm not sure why this guitar isn't more popular compared to the GD20 as I believe it has a better sound. This guitar sounds great and is easy to play even without having done a setup on it. It will last me a long time before I might feel the need for something different.
Best kept secret
So I picked up one of these used as a campfire guitar... wanted a cheap beater instead of playing my Martins (00-15 and D28). I played every under $500 guitar in the shop, including Yamaha"s (never a fan of the tone, although solid instruments), Recording King, Ibanez, Washbourne, Alvarez (I was a fan in the past) and several others, being open to anything that sounded good. Honestly,… read more I had a poor impression of Takamine and thought they made cheap guitars. But this one really sung, both with finger picking and hard strumming. I also like that it is a mini-jumbo just to add some variety to my current mix. Nothing can match the tone of a Martin, but that is obviously another price point. For under $500 category, this is a great performing guitar that really works for me and my style of play!
