Takamine TH8SS - Natural Review

Great guitar

I've been looking to upgrade my nylon acoustic/electric guitar for a few years. I have a 22 year old Takamine and a 15 year old Godin. I play finger style jazz in a duet or trio (Brazilian, Latin, Bebop). Also play some classical. I've had this guitar for about 2 weeks. I disagree.… read more I have always liked the feel of a classical guitar: the body size, light weight, and widely spaced strings (2' nut) which facilitate finger style playing. However, performing in a live group setting requires volume. I use a Fishman LoudBox Mini amplifier. The CoolTube on the Takamine sounds great through this amp - it took a few days to hone the tone, but now that I found it, it sounds like a loud classical guitar. The tone holds up at high volume. I had Sweetwater set this up with hard tension strings. (Adam Vaughn was my sales person and did a great job talking through the setup with me by phone prior to the purchase). The guitar technician got it right. The Takamine hard case is sturdy and looks good. It's heavy, but not too heavy. Takamine has a great product in the TH8SS. The craftsmanship is excellent. This guitar sounds great unplugged and amplified due to the Cool Tube technology. If you perform live music that requires a classical nylon string sound, this guitar should be strongly considered. I'm very pleased with this purchase.
