Wasn't Sure at First
I actually purchased this guitar about six months ago, but waited until now to write a review. For a short time I was experiencing buyer's remorse. But it wasn't about the quality of the instrument. The issue was that I was wondering how much use I would actually get out of it. I play with the worship team at a small church. I typically play my 6-string (Yamaha LL16), which… read more I love. Learning to finger pick a 12-string was challenge. And I had to learn to get away from using barre chords. Ultimately, I was getting so much positive feedback on the 12-string that there was no question but that I would keep it. It has made me a better player (at the age of 67), and I have learned when to best use it. For the price, this is a great guitar. And while the guitar does not have a bunch fancy enhancements, I still think this is a beautiful instrument. The fit and finish of the instrument is impeccable. The combination of the Sitka spruce top and mahogany body(laminated, I know) makes for a great look and sound. The neck is smooth and comfortable. I have been happy with the action, which is better than I had experienced with other 12-strings. The guitar has also been easier to keep in tune than I expected. The only downside for me is having to work around barre chords, but that is a reflection of me and not the guitar. The gig-bag is nicely padded, with a outside, multi-section storage pocket. In addition to handles, it comes with backpack straps and a grab handle on the backside for carrying options. If you are looking for a reasonably priced, high-value acoustic-electric 12-string, I highly recommend the Taylor 150e. Zach Maurer did a great job helping me with the purchase.
Plays and sounds like a dream!
My dad had a 12 string that I grew up on. When he passed away, the only thing I wanted was his old guitar. Unfortunately, years of being stored in his attic did a number on it. After I retired, I decided to start playing again. I have a great 6 string Martin that I love. But I really wanted the sounds you only get from a 12 string. Playability was super important as was the… read more tone. After a lot of back and forth with CJ Thompson (who was simply stellar), I bought this one. I had Sweetwater adjust the playability to improve what was already a great playable guitar. After it arrived, I played it for hours - and yes, it was everything I had hoped for. So good, that for my grand daughters 4th birthday, I wrote and performed a song just for her. I've learned over the years that all you leave behind are memories and values. Chalk up this great little guitar for helping me leave a memory that she and my daughters will cherish long after I'm gone. Buying from Sweetwater, now that I've experienced them, is something special. They are serious about customer experience. It's cultural and embedded in every part of the buying experience I had. I'll never go anywhere else. And CJ - well, all I can do is say thank you. You're the best.
Wonderful sound, value and stable tuning
I've had this guitar for several years. Decided to write a short review adding to the comments about the battery lifetime and the battery compartment and door. But first, I couldn't agree more with all the other comments regarding playability and tone - they're great. I never had another 12 string, but I have many other guitars from 6-string Martin flat-top (D-15) to an Eastman… read more archtop (AR503ce)to PRS, Fender and Gibson electrics. Just love the "jangly" sound that only the 12 string can make. Regarding the battery for the pickup pre-amp, I've noticed a fresh Energizer will last about 12 hours - I know this because I have accidentally left a cord or wireless transmitter in the output jack overnight after a living room concert and by morning a fresh battery will be mostly diminished. The battery is "on" as long as something as in the jack. I've also found that only certain 9 volt battery brands fit well in the holder. Not all are the exact same size. Energizer seems to fit OK. Finally, the combo shoulder strap peg/output jack does not accept a thick strap well. Definitively not long enough for my strap and a strap lock. Still rating 5 starts based on tone and playability.
A good surprise
I wanted a 12 string guitar that was inexpensive and still quality playability and tone. 12 strings sound either really good or like junk. Money is not the deciding factor. Quality of build does. I was not thinking Taylor when I began my search, but it seems as if nobody had 12strings in stock. I finally chose what I thought would be best 12 string in my price range. I am… read more confined to a wheelchair, so size and weight are important, as is playability. I was originally looking for a jumbo, but I was afraid it might be a bit to big to use with my wheelchair. The dreadnought seemed like a better choice IF I did not have to lose tone or volume. I ordered the Taylor 150e and hoped it would be satisfactory. When it arrived only a couple days later, we opened the boxes and pulled the gig bag out of the case. I opened the gig bag and found my guitar in excellent condition and it tuned up quickly and was ready to play. I had not had a 12 string in my hands for several years, so it took a little while to begin to get used to the way it plays. To my amazement barre chords are very easy to play and it made the adjustment much easier. I am surprisingly pleased with my 12 string guitar and it seems that this shall do me all I need for the years ahead. This is a quality guitar and I am very happy with my Taylor 150e 12 string guitar. The spruce top and walnut back and sides is one of my favorite combinations.
Unbelievable brilliant tone and playabilty
WOW!!!I wish I could paste the sound of this for you to listen. EVERY TIME I play it out I get compliments. Better yet is the playabilty. My salesman JACOB ( YOUR THE MAN) talked me into a setup. Also had a bone saddle installed. If you have ever picked up a 12 string and I have, Guild, Yamaha, and Gibson. This blows them out of the water. I cannot say enough about the personal service… read more through the years with Sweetwater. They ALWAYS go above and beyond.
