Zoning in the Tone Zone !
Still new to me only 2nd day after install . Much more tone in my Melody Maker , hotter too ! Re-rewired ( x2) didn't like the original wiring needed to do it different due to short p/ up leads . Ran them to 3/way first then to pots . Didn't work right . But the Dimarzio's came with longer wire and I did it correctly and worked perfect the first time . Also a Breed p/up . Tone Zone bridge 375 output Breed neck 325 output and it doesn't squeal like it used to with the old Gibson un - potted p/ups . Kicks butt !
A match for the PAF Pro
I wanted to get a bit of the Buck Dharma flavor without spending $1700+ for a sig guitar so I went with what's in it. I love them, as far as I'm concerned, I get all the tone I was looking for. So, buy a nice guitar (without going broke for a month or 2), drop this and the PAF Pro in it and get those great sounds Mr. Roeser is famous for.
Great for certain applications...not so great for metal.
I purchased a basswood body Ibanez RG652 Prestige with a fixed bridge, and it came equipped with a Tone Zone in the bridge. When I first got the guitar, I tuned up to standard and dug right in with my Vox AC30. I instantly enjoyed the tones I was getting. Very warm and clear...and not particularly muddy. Despite a great first impression, I bought the guitar for metal purposes and… read more intended to tune down. I changed the strings, tuned down to D standard and did a proper setup before plugging into my heavily modded(FJA mods) 6505+ head, I was instantly a little underwhelmed. The guitar just sounded too dark and all the qualities I dug about it on my Vox were no longer there. It had a very nasal like quality, especially on the higher notes. I will say, it is definitely not the amp, as the rest of my collection sounds fantastic on it. I plugged it back into the Vox, in the D standard tuning, and though the amp sounds immensely different than my 6505, I still wasn't getting the same pleasing results that I had gotten with it in Standard tuning. I decided very quickly that I would try out a new pickup before rethinking the guitar purchase. I went and grabbed a Dimarzio Illuminator and BAM, the guitar came alive! All my complaints were fixed. The clarity and bite came back and the nasal like quality was gone. I would like to stress, with the right guitar and amp, I think this is a good rock pickup. For my purposes, it just didn't work out. I am hanging on to it, just in case I acquire a guitar that it may suit better one day.
Dimarzio pickup (tone zone)
Love the Dimarzio tone zone first time I tried Dimarzio in any of my guitars, similar to a Seymour Duncan Jb model but not as muddy and better mids..
