Fantastic tube amp!
I've had my Tremlord 30 for a couple months now and have put it through it's paces. I was concerned it wouldn't have enough headroom for stage use with a loud drummer but it surely does! Depending on your tone and preferred guitar, it breaks up about 5-6 on the volume. I play loud and cleanish, so it seems to work best for me with my Strat when playing various full band gigs. In… read more certain clubs, the 15 watt setting is perfect, others require the 30 watt setting. The tone of the amp itself is chimey, though tweedish with a nice grind. It also can be very FAT and dark sounding. For small gigs, it's extremely versatile. The simple bass and treble controls are very powerful and help every guitar I own achieve any tone needed. The tremolo is one of the very best I've heard. The designers really did a nice job with the bias trem circuit, very warm, round, and not choppy like an opto etc. Two switchable speeds is really fun too, saves you from walking back to the amp every other song and changing it! The spring reverb on this amp BLOWS AWAY any current Fender amp! It's voiced right, not a honky mid heavy tone...the Tremlord reverb sings along with your notes and can be subtle to full on noir/surf vibes. Nice splash and just enough grit with a long decay. I love the reverb at ALL settings. I have played professionally for 40 years now and have ALWAYS used Fender amps...I've owned the Deluxe Reverb, Vibrolux, Pro Reverb, Princeton Reverb and mostly use a Custom Shop Dual Professional from the mid-90's (one of the very best stage amps ever). The Tremlord compares favorably volume wise to the Deluxe and Vibrolux...though the reverb and trem are spectacular on the Tremlord, as well as having superior break up. If you appreciate those amps, I think you'll love this one. Shout out to my salesperson Tomir Denton at Sweetwater who always does a great job helping me, staying in touch and getting things shipped to me FAST! Lastly, the versatility of the Orange Tremlord is what makes it unique...with the switchable power sections (yes bedroom level sounds great too!), the sweet trem and verb, and a classic clean/tweed/british tone that works with multiple guitars. The simplicity is MOST WELCOME! Thanks Orange! A true winner for me! Highly recommended!
Can You Say Definition?- The true Fender/Vox Killer
The Tremlord 30 is an all tube (minus the rectifier) combo from the lovely chaps at Orange Amplification. Though it's often referred to as a "clean" amplifier, it's not exactly a twin reverb or Jazz Chorus amplifier. It is quite capable of vintage gain tones, but never anything that amounts to the VH Brown Sound for example. It's gain lives in the "AC30" level of distortion, its… read more a glorious sound though a little hard to achieve since it doesn't have a master volume knob. This can be a deal breaker for many. Luckily it has power scaling and at 1 watt it really does break up when cranked, though you'd never get an overdriven tone at late night levels if youre trying to keep the people you live with happy. The Speaker sounds wonderful after break in, I cranked the bass (this amp produces alot of bass, much more than your average marshall) and played heavy percussive chords for an extended time. The result was a speaker with more focused bass and musical highs. There is a pleasant musical midrange present throughout. You can't dial it out, but you wouldn't want to. The sound of the amp itself is so natural and pleasant sounding. At first I was worried since I don't own distortion pedals besides an Archer, but the tone of the amp is so lovely I find myself enjoying even clean playing. If you've ever owned a Fender valve amplifier (Deluxe Reverb etc) you know it tends to have a scooped sound. If you've owned or heard an AC30 or AC15 you know that the vox kind of has a scooped quality to it too. This amp, is not like that. It has brilliant defined tone that is never boomy. With my Guild, it is lovely. With my Les Paul, it rocks. I find it to a quite fully featured amp, which it's wonderful buffered effects loop, option for 4 levels of power and BEAUTIFUL reverb and tremolo. The tremolo alone is more beautiful than any pedal you could pick up. Pulsating wobbling beauty. True ear candy. This is not a clean amp. It is a british 30 watt combo that is non master volume. You know what else is that way? The Marshall Plexi. We all know they've made those rock huh? This will rock your face off when boosted with pedals. What I keep failing to describe is the wonderful organic musical nature of the tone. My Gibson has never sounded as beautiful as it has through this amp. And it definitely sounds a hell of a lot more luxurious than the AC30, in my opinion. I will not rate this amplifier as a perfect 5 stars... because in order for it to have that it would need a master volume control. At least for me. I would love to access it's overdrive at lower volume. This is the only reason I did not rate it a perfect score. One thing I will say is that it is a vintage inspired design and therefore sometimes has quirks typical or old tube amps, like the amp driving a little harder when the reverb is engaged on account of the tube driven spring reverb etc. If you don't know what I'm saying, don't worry about it. You probably don't even need to worry about these features. Just plug into this wonderful Orange and play!!
So Sweet!
This is by far my favorite amp I’ve ever owned! Such great clean tones and it sounds so great with a little overdrive. Orange kept it simple so it’s basically tone, tremolo, and an awesome reverb option. Super satisfied!
