Good sound, but not-so-good build
When I received this, it was already chipped inside of the box (see the picture). This isn't a huge deal of course but I would expect better from an official name-brand Fender part. In addition to this, the knobs aren't very true. When I say this, I mean that they wobble on axis and it looks very bad. This is somewhat disappointing as my 2004 Squier pickguard that I was replacing… read more had better feeling controls. The pots felt great although they were scratchy, hence the upgrade. I expected the Fender upgrade parts to be a large upgrade but I was wrong. The pickups themselves sound very good and it is the only redeeming quality about this. I'll keep it because it sounds great and I already went through the trouble of getting it installed.
Sounds Fantastic--Easy Drop in Replacement
I have a 1986 MIJ Squier Stratocaster. The original ceramic pickups actually sound pretty decent, but they are pretty noisy. Plus, the pots are all scratchy now. I guess I could put in shielding and spray deoxit on all the electronics, but I'm lazy. I saw a YouTube demo of the new Fender H.E.R Stratocaster. It sounds fantastic, and it uses the Fender Vintage Noiseless pickups. I… read more need another guitar like I need a hole in the head, so I decided to replace the pickups on my Squier. The pre-wired pickguard is a no brainer as it swaps out everything and soldering the ground wire and the wires to the output jack is simple. The pickguard fits PERFECTLY into my 1986 Squier. The only difference is one screw on the left side does not match up. I feel like I have a totally brand new guitar now. The tone of the pickups is great. It sounds *almost* exactly like my 2003 American Fender Standard Strat. My American Strat is actually pretty darn quiet, but the Vintage Noiseless set is dead quiet and has that signature Strat sound.
