Seymour Duncan Vintage Stack Tele Single Coil Hum-cancelling 2-piece Pickup Set - Black

Very good body to the tone with plenty of Tele "ping" and clarity...and NO HUM. Used in a Strandberg Salen replacing Suhr Classic T pickups...far better tone, no comparison.

Bright top, lots of high end, not for heavy music

These come with non-machined screws for the installation, which also gave me a problem (as another review indicated). The screws for the neck screw into the body. I play primarily through an Orange Rocker 15 and a vox classic rock amPLUG. These are very bright, with lots of high end and harmonic clarity. On the neck pickup only it's easy to get a very thin, shrill distortion read more perfect for ska/punk (think Op Ivy, Jay Reatard, The Cramps), surf, garage and psych and have virtually no hum from the guitar. Using the two pickups in series gives a great body and blend, allowing for a nice mid-range voice great for picking and riffing, but not particularly suited for chords. There is definition lost, particularly on the low end. Palm mutes sound (surprisingly) deep and full, the tone is well rounded. I think the bridge pickup shines VERY nicely, providing a great balance to the neck. It's musical, deep while keeping a lot of high end clarity. The tonality is crisp with a lot of range through the tone knob. Much more musical than many of the bridge pickups I've played with. Overall, I cannot roll the tone knob back, there simply is not enough low end definition to sound anything but muddled. However I normally play with it rolled all forward at the highest and brightest. I think these are great if you're not playing SSS and want a lipstick tele sound, and aren't playing anything hardcore/heavy metal, growling. If you're playing papery, or with a lot of spring reverb, I think these would work well.

New Pick-ups

Well, since I am a complete mouth breather, the wiring was a bit of a chore, but once I got everything dialed in I was VERY happy with the results. Much more twangy/spanky than the original pick-ups which had a humbucker in the neck position. Also they are quieter on high gain settings. Note: I did have to buy a new pickguard on Amazon since I went from a humbucker to a single read more coil in the neck position. Oh well... ten bucks well spent... No regrets.

Exceeded Expectations

I bought this set for a tele build that I had originally put a set of Fender Blackguard Broadcaster pickups. They were disappointing and I rarely picked up the guitar until I put these in...now it's one of my go-to guitars. It's the only bridge pickup in any of my guitars that I actually like on its own. Highly recommended.

Fantastic

be aware that these ship only with wood screws for mounting to the body and not the pickguard. you will need machine screws to mount the neck to the pickup guard. i contacted SD and asked why they didnt supply additional screws and they replied that these are considered "vintage" thus they want it mounted to the tele body. i found that ironic being that noiseless pups only came read more out around 2000 which isnt vintage. anyway as far as sound, theres alot of debate amongst musicians as to the authenticity of noiseless vs true single coil. my feeling is these sound fantastic and even fender puts them on many models of teles (not their vintage and classic lines). and the hum is GONE! They do what they are meant to do, and seymour duncans are the best value for the dollar. thanks to sweetwater i had them in 2 days.
