Dual Action Truss Rod

I've had this guitar about two months now. It has been a delight, but with summer and the Southern Arizona monsoon season coming on the neck had begun to take on a slight back bow, causing some of the strings to buzz against the frets slightly. So I pulled out the hex key that came with the guitar and adjusted the truss rod tension. The rod was easily accessed through the sound… read more hole without removing any of the strings and a slight counter-clockwise adjustment quickly restored the proper fret relief. This truss rod is double acting, allowing greater control of the fret board than is possible with a single acting truss rod. This is a great feature on any guitar, and was a bonus I didn't expect to get for the money. Good job Washburn!

So I really only found these reviews trying to find a bit more info on this guitar I bought. . . . With an interesting back story. . . Hang in there because there is a point to all of this :) So back in 2003 I was a senior in high school and a dumb a** class clown so I needed another few credits to graduate. I decided to take guitar class even though I had been playing since 6th… read more grade :) Awesome, easy class. One strong memory though was they had an arsenal of these same Washburn C40 Classical Acoustics. I mean I can't even remember. . . . Maybe 25 -30? They were tough, and had to be for the teenagers. They also played and sounded great!! They were perfect for a beginner or someone with more experience like myself at the time:) Fast forward to a few months ago. Oct. 2021 I'm at my buddies guitar shop. I see this Washburn C40 hanging on the wall and I just drifted right over to it. My friend tells me a teacher brought in a few of them. They were heading to the landfill is what the teacher told him, the school said to get rid of them. . . And this teacher saved them from the trash!! Not sure the reason for the school to trash perfectly fine guitars. I saw the same chips on the bottom as the ones I remembered being beat up in school :) Same dings and dents. . . . And that awesome headstock!!! Well I remember kids sticking there pencils and colored pens and whatever in the semi-hole on the top. . . . this came back to me after I saw the colored marker on the headstock of the guitar. So I just started playing it and wow . . . . The sound is amazing!! Like it did not matter what it has been through, it was still ready for years and years of making beautiful sounds. So obviously. . . . I bought it Long story short. . . Too late!! This guitar is totally worth every penny . . . and you will fall in love with it like everyone else that plays it. It's built very well ( Really durable too :) the wood is absolutely beautiful!!! Mine actually has what looks like a knot in the wood on the back of the neck. If your reading the reviews to decide if your going to buy one, well, go ahead and buy one :) You won't be disappointed

Long term review

It's pretty easy to give a guitar a glowing review when you've only had it for a couple of weeks, or a couple months, but how about after the honeymoon period is long gone ? Especially with a lower priced guitar, how does it hold up after a few years ? Maybe a couple of decades? Well, in the case of the Washburn C40, just fine, thank you ! I bought this guitar 20, maybe 25 years… read more ago. I believe at the time I paid $150 for it. I'm mainly an electric player, but the band at the time was looking to add some acoustic material to the set, nylon string acoustic to be specific. I found this at a local music store. Played good, sounded good, and cheap. Sold ! I never thought I would still have it all these years later, but it's such a likeable, friendly guitar to play. Yeah sure, there are many higher end guitars out there, but I've never felt the need to upgrade from this. It's been a solid, reliable performer right through to this day. Don't let the low price scare you away. This isn't a cheap guitar you settle for, this is an inexpensive guitar that will hang with you for the long haul.

Washburn Classical C40

It's not often you can say something is perfect but this guitar is. Ultimate craftsmanship, deep, beautiful tone, light to hold and yes, a classic wide neck. I really appreciate this great instrument and hope to pass it to my daughter and perhaps her children.

A Work of Art

I am blown away by the detail and craftsmanship of this instrument. I haven't played a Classical Guitar since music class in high school some 45 years ago. I wasn't happy with the width of fretboard and steep curvature of the neck then. Consequently, I only bought acoustic and slim-tapered necked guitars for my electrics (mostly Fender). So, today I want to play more fingerstyle… read more music which requires a Classical with a 2" nut. I was apprehensive about it all, but I know the Washburn products (acoustic) and new I couldn't go wrong trying a Classical guitar from them. I went with the C40 just-in-case it wouldn't work out. But, I was so surprised when I started playing it. The sustains of the bass strings are warm and strong. The treble strings are crisp and clear. The action throughout the neck was consistent and smooth - moving from the 5th fret to the 12th fret was with ease. I am proud to be the owner of this beautifully crafted Washburn Classical Guitar. The finishing polish is rich and clean allowing the fineness of the wood to ring through. The bindings give its overall look a subtle aristocratic appearance. And, finally, the wood choices and quality provide a sound far better than the price suggests. If your looking for a beginner-level Classical Guitar with a price-point that won't make you feel guilty, you really must give this fine piece a chance. You won't have any regrets.
