Great Bass and Sweetwater Support!
I'm moving from strictly playing electric bass, to upright bass. The quality of this bass is great and Sweetwater was amazing when I had a problem with shipping. They dropped the overnight shipping charge when the bass arrived 3 days late. This is my 3rd bass purchase from Sweetwater and they always been great to deal with. My goal is to transition to an acoustic upright bass and… read more this is really helping to speed up the process. Also, my band says that the tone is very close to an amplified acoustic upright, so that was a big relief. Plus, it is extremely easy to setup and play on a cramped stage! I use a Radial BigShot I/O True Bypass Selector Switch to switch between the Wav 4 and my American Jazz on stage.
Sculpture You Can Play
This is the most amazing musical instrument I have ever seen or better yet, heard. It's musical sculpture. It's a great product. I was worried when I ordered, thought something this compact in a bass might sound New Age-y. It doesn't. Nice full, low bass tone with tons of sustain. I can pluck the E string, walk the dog, and the note will still be playing when I get back. You have… read more to love the maple body with the synthetic fingerboard. The board doesn't feel like rosewood, but it doesn't feel plastic-y either. There are no visible pick-ups, but amplification of each string is very even. Just simple volume and tone controls on the side, with a toggle switch for arco or pizzato. Easy to tune, with nice intonation the included tripod stand holds the instrument very securely, I'm not worried about knocking it over accidentally. It's wonderfully fretless, but easy to play. Sounds awesome paired with my Fender Rumble amp. I use a wireless system so I can set it up anywhere in my house and play. Can hardly wait to try out the NS French bow I ordered with it. For those of us who have always wanted to play an upright bass, but didn't have the $ and the space required for a full traditional double-bass, try this out. Very intuitive, if you have ever played electric bass this instrument will feel very familiar to you. This is one box that isn't going back.
Everybody I know loves this bass
The NS WAV has an unexpectedly fat, warm sound for an EUB. It's easy to dial, has amazing sustain, works well with either of my amps (AI Coda combo & Acoustic B300 head w/12" cab), and it's even comfortable to play. The passive pickup means no batteries dying on the gig- win! I took it to work the day after i unboxed it- it's that easy to transition from doghouse. I've used it five… read more or six times, and everybody, even the sound techs, loved it. And as if that weren't enough, it looks cool, packs and sets up easily, and won't break your budget. If you're thinking about an EUB, definitely consider this one. I'd give it seven stars if that was a thing.
NS Designs WAV4 Upright Bass
I had been renting an upright bass for the better part of a year. I was questioning whether I should continue to rent or if I should just go ahead and purchase an upright bass. I did a lot of research and found out that due to the space restrictions I have at home and gigging that getting an electric upright was the way to go. I could not be happier. The playability of the WAV4… read more is exceptional. I have played many normal uprights and this felt similar to my electric with I was more comfortable with. I am excited to see how my skill grows with owning the WAV4 and would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking at getting into playing upright. However, acoustically it is not a replacement for a normal upright but it does have endless possibilities for sound adaptation that is very unique to this type of instrument.
My new favorite bass
I have looked at and wanted this bass for many years. I finally got myself in a regular gig that let me "justify" the purchase. From day one, I was impressed by the sound and playability of this instrument. I am primarily an upright bass player, and the WAV4 opens up so many new possibilities for my playing - all the way up and across the neck. The string action is so smooth and… read more the tone is a nice mix between the acoustic bass "thump" on the low end and the fretless bass "growl" up the neck. Have received so many compliments on how good the bass sounds and looks. My only regret now is that I waited so long to get this bass. I LOVE IT!
